What you will do
The Mechanical Engineer Specialist will lead and/or participate in the design and development of new technology, mechanical components, mechanical sub-systems and systems to meet defense vehicle requirements. Key focus areas will include vehicle suspension, powertrain, chassis, and driveline components and systems. The role will lead in the adaptation and integration of these system designs by maturing the solution and integration from proof of concept to production-ready designs through prototyping, testing, final design development and industrialization.
Core responsibilities:
• Assist in the development of new or modified vehicle platforms and systems.
• Assist in the testing and validation of vehicles platforms and systems.
• Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues
• Assist in the development of all project technical quality, delivery and cost objectives
• Manage the attainment of all technical project objectives
• Represent engineering on cross-functional program teams
• Evaluate designs for performance, safety and reliability in accordance with customer requirements
• Lead the preparation of all required engineering documentation (conceptual development, drawings, specifications, bills of material, test procedures, test reports, etc.)
• Maintain project documentation for project planning, requirements analysis, risk management, task management, status reporting, project communication, quality assurance, etc.
• Provide technical hands-on assistance as required for prototype, pilot, and production support
• Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering
• Other duties as assigned

• Possess a strong knowledge of vehicles and related vehicle systems.

• Strong computer skills
Basic Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline with applicable experience
• Minimum 8 years of related design experience
• Demonstrated product development experience in automotive, truck or off-highway equipment industries at the vehicle platform and/or major vehicular systems level
• Knowledgeable of industry standards for mechanical design, geometric tolerances, dimensioning, material standards, strength of materials
• Demonstrated experience in typical engineering documentation systems and processes
• Able to obtain a US Department of Defense security clearance as required by job duties
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience in the development of armored military vehicles and/or systems
• Demonstrated experience working within the defense industry and/or governmental programs
• Working knowledge in the use of 3-D CAD systems (Creo/Pro-E)
