Manager Accounting

This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and tax compliance, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to regulatory requirements. As a key member of the Canada leadership team, the Manager of Accounting will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and direction of the organization.

What You Will Do

• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, and analysis of variances.
• Direct the preparation and filing of all tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and other regulatory filings, ensuring timely submission and compliance with tax laws and regulations.
• Provide guidance and oversight to accounting staff, including training, performance management, and professional development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to support strategic initiatives and process improvements.
• Monitor changes in accounting standards, tax laws and regulations, and assess the impact on the organization, providing recommendations and implementing necessary changes.
• Lead and support external audits, examinations, and reviews by regulatory agencies, auditors, and tax authorities.
• Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure smooth communication and resolution of issues.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA certification preferred. 
• 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and tax roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial position. 
• Proficiency with MS Office, with advanced knowledge of Excel and accounting software  
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and standards, including GAAP and tax regulations. 
• Strong experience in financial reporting requirements and preparing financial statements. 
• Proven tax compliance and reporting expertise (corporate income and sales tax). 
• Experience in captive finance industry is preferred. 
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make strategic recommendations. 
• Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities. 
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders. 
• Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work effectively on multiple tasks in a fast-paced, demanding environment. 
• Solid working knowledge of IFRS accounting principles and financial information systems. 
• Sound business judgment and decision-making abilities
