Position Description 

 

Commodity buyer is a member of sub-commodity team(s) defining the sourcing strategy for the given sub-commodity. He or She drives QSCCF (Quality, Sustainability, Capacity, Cost and Features) targets at the sub-commodity level with its supplier base and supports optimum Early Supplier Involvement to deliver optimum common global technical solutions along with product and projects expectations.

Specific: 

  • Proven experience in sourcing for an international group 

  • Has a deep understanding of sourcing strategy process and has a holistic view on its sub-commodity issues  

  • Has a clear understanding and vision of current supply base evolution and supplier market trends preferably on Heavy / Medium Fabrication, Castings, Forgings and Machined parts 

  • Have required technical skills to understand and support the combined Purchasing and Technology strategy 

  • Has proven capabilities in negotiation  

  • Has the ability to manage on his own a whole sub-commodity 

  • Creative attitude and energetic. Achievement driven 

  • Fluent in English 

 

Educational Qualification & Experience 

 

  • Minimum of a 15-year Engineering degree required (Mechanical / Production) 

  • 7-10 years’ work experience in Buyer Role 

  • Working experience in Automotive/Construction Equipment industry in managing supplier relationships and driving continuous improvements programs 

  • Proven process knowledge in few of the manufacturing discipline Heavy / Medium Fabrication, Castings, Forgings, Machining etc., 

  • Hands on work experience in Zero based costing 

  • Proven knowledge within Advanced Product Quality Planning. 

  • Product Development knowledge  

  • Applied proven capability of effective project management  

  • Proven ability to work effectively in matrix organization and ability to manage and influence others  

  • Strong communication skills in English, additional language skills a plus 

 

Responsibilities 

 

  • Supplier Host  

  • Commercial responsible within Order To Delivery and within Product Portfolio Development for Structures & Attachment commodity 

  • Define the sourcing strategy together with the commodity team (for given sub-commodities) and all necessary stakeholders 

  • Anchor the sourcing strategy for its sub-commodities  

  • Support implementation of the sourcing strategy in the product and regions 

  • Manage supply base (identification, evaluation, approval and development of strategic supplier) 

  • Responsible for supplier management strategies and tactics including Steel mills 

  • Drive QSCC targets at sub commodity level and track implementation (TCO, Quality and Timing) with support of other Purchasing teams  

  • Negotiate Long Term Agreements (LTA), containing Frame Work Agreement (FWA) based on our Volvo General Purchasing Conditions (VGPC), Warranty-, QSCC-, Development agreement 

  • Support Project leaders in reaching project targets with its supplier base (Planning, target cost, technical proposals) 

  • Conduct Business Reviews (meeting to review the overall supplier performance) 

  • Collaboratively work with Sales & Marketing to develop and implement customer specific attachment solutions  

  • Support sites according to escalation processes 

  • Deliver NPD activities meeting QSCC objectives  

  • Support in activities to recover warranty cost from suppliers 

  • Work in accordance with the Volvo CE processes, the Volvo Way, Volvo Philosophy & values  

 

Authorities 

  • Own strategy development and its deployment plan 

  • Decide supplier selection in agreement with key stakeholders 

  • Negotiate all main supplier contracts (FWA, QSCC, Development, Warranty...) 

  • Approve supplier price list for given sub commodities
