Key Responsibilities
•    Perform comprehensive material characterization of metallic and non-metallic (polymer) materials. 
•    Evaluate materials through mechanical, chemical, microstructural and surface characterization techniques. 
•    Interpret test data and correlate material properties. 
•    Develop, review, and maintain material specifications, standards, and validations. 
•    Support material approval for new suppliers and engineering changes. 
•    Review supplier material certifications, test reports, Support supplier material qualification. 
•    Failure Analysis: Perform fractography and Lead material-related root cause investigations for production and field failures. Recommend corrective and preventive actions based on technical findings. 
•    Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Validation, and Product Development teams to resolve material-related challenges. 

 

Technical Competencies
Mechanical Characterization: Hardness, Tensile, Compression, Fatigue and Impact testing. 
Chemical Characterization: Spectroscopy techniques such Spark OES, ICP-OES, Carbon/Sulfur analysis, FTIR, TGA. 
Microstructural Characterization: Optical Microscopy and SEM/EDS 

 

Required Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. 
•    Knowledge of automotive material standards (ASTM, ISO, SAE, EN, Volvo Standards, etc.)
