Role Purpose
Responsible for the design, development, and integration of Axles and propeller shaft components within the Base Engine & Driveline team. The role focuses on Component design, concept creation, interface and packaging studies, drawing creation, and PLM-related activities to ensure robust and manufacturable designs aligned with vehicle architecture and system requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Component Design & CAD Development
- Develop and refine Axles and propeller shaft concepts using CREO, including 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings.
- Conduct CAD concept studies for new and existing designs to meet performance, durability, cost, and packaging requirements.
- Perform assembly and interface studies to ensure proper integration with engine, transmission, differential, and vehicle chassis.
- Ensure compliance with internal design standards, best practices, and design guidelines.
Integration & Layout
- Perform installation feasibility studies in collaboration with packaging, vehicle integration, and layout teams.
- Analyze vehicle layout to validate clearance, accessibility, and alignment of the Axles and propeller shaft with surrounding systems.
- Perform basic stack-up analysis to ensure tolerance robustness for assemblies and interfaces.
- Support evaluation of NVH, durability, and performance aspects through appropriate design considerations.
PLM & Configuration Management
- Support all relevant PLM activities including part creation, metadata maintenance, and lifecycle management.
- Create and maintain accurate part structures and BOMs for propeller shaft assemblies and related components.
- Prepare and manage DCN (Design Change Notice) / ECN releases, ensuring correct documentation, traceability, and timely implementation.
- Ensure that CAD data, drawings, and documents are correctly released and archived in the PLM system according to company processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Issue Resolution
- Work closely with relevant interfacing component responsible, purchase, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet quality and delivery targets.
- Provide CAD and drawing support during design reviews, technical discussions, and issue resolution.
- Support in resolving part issues in production and in the field, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Support supplier interactions by providing clear design data, requirements, and feedback on manufacturability and quality.
Quality, Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure adherence to relevant standards, regulations, and internal guidelines for drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Contribute to design reviews, DFMEAs (if applicable), and lessons-learned activities to continually improve quality and robustness.
- Propose and implement improvements in CAD methods, design practices, and PLM/EDB templates.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
- 15 years of relevant experience in component design, preferably in Axles and propeller shaft
- Demonstrated experience in CAD concept studies, 3D modelling, 2D drawing creation, and assembly/interface studies.
- Experience with PLM systems for part creation, BOM management, and design release (including DCN/ECN processes).
- Strong understanding of stack-up analysis and tolerance management in mechanical assemblies.
- Knowledge of installation feasibility assessments and vehicle layout integration.
- Basic understanding of driveline/propeller shaft function and interfaces with engine, transmission, and axle.
- Experience in supporting resolution of production and field issues, ideally using structured problem-solving methods.
