Job Summary (Purpose of Job):
- The objective of this position is to Convert feature descriptions to technical product specification.
- Develop end to end functional specifications and requirements on system level in line with the overall product requirements and work with project team in the completion of assigned tasks to meet planned QDCF objectives and other technical objectives of development projects.
- Ensure international standards and legal compliance are met for global manufacture and sale of Road Products.
- This position supports the chief engineer in defining system solutions and works across all technical disciplines and focuses on product application and the technical integration of the various technologies on the product.
- Plan and coordinate project deliverables with PO, Scrum leader/CPM and other technical leads within the project.
Job Role:
Main Tasks/ Responsibilities / Authorities:
Main Tasks:
- Supplier of the application knowledge to New Development and AE projects
- Lead platform feasibility/advanced engineering projects.
- Drive modularity with all new product developments.
- Component & system level performance calculations. Assist and recommend component selection efforts and judge suitability to design requirements.
- Lead the discussion on concept selection inline with platform prerequisites.
- Support long term vehicle development towards Modularity, strategic plan or roadmaps.
- Perform geometrical integration of systems and components as well as geometry assurance. Complete vehicle geometry analysis of weight and dimensions to meet QDCF target within the project.
- Support PMT process with product knowledge and trouble shooting
- Provide technical assistance to marketing, Production, Aftermarket, Purchasing etc.
- Provide solutions for customization and special application.
- Develop processes and tools for increased efficiency in development activities.
- Define requirements and verification methods to verify and validate the feature level agreed on by the project description. Support verification & validation plan for the projects. Secure, maintain, and develop the feature knowledge over a longer time for segments, markets & applications.
Responsibilities:

- Top level BOM
- Specify system/subsystem functional and physical requirements
- System integration
- Product Risk Management (FMEA etc)
- Define, analyse and report on product parameter (Cost, weight etc) compliance in a project Environment.
- Brand identity in products.
- Safety, Law and Regulations Compliance. Coordinate and ensure for all projects with a certification and compliance impact, that the type approvals for components, systems or vehicles impacted by the project, are delivered according to the projects plan.
Authorities: (flexible basis the demonstrated ability)
- Sign-off system specification for all systems.
- Approves design concepts to be presented to Cross functional Project Team
- Approves design change notice before sending to CPM/PO
- Sign-off boundary diagram defining the machine interfaces in the project.
- Approves for CFT Sign-off of periodic maintenance chart for the machine. Proof reads the OM & SM.
- Sign-off Collision check matrix document for the Product.
- Reviews and approves for CFT signs-off PRS and Data sheets.
- Signs-off Verification requirement document and Test cases
- Approves Verification results document.

Product and application knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of customer requirements and needs of Compactors & Pavers
- Should have strong Road machinery product knowledge and historical data in terms of generations of models, failure data etc.
- Fully proficient in how the different segments and applications effect the machine's performance.
- Fully proficient with Competition offering and Bench marking process.
Project management skills and financial understanding:
- Fully proficient with the GDP process. (e.g. Understanding of FDR document and other product documentation for Gate approval)
- Fully proficient in Monitoring the Product cost during development and in production.
- Knowledgeable to define the business case for class 0 and NPD projects. (e.g.: knowledgeable about the estimating effort on project/ feature)
- Considerable practical experience with creating a L1 or L2 project plan.
- Should have good understanding of what constitutes SCOS and should have knowledge about fixed and variable cost in SCOS. Understands DNP and calculation of GM
- Understands and explains how a specific cost reduction impacts product and platform profitability and can distribute the required reduction in a project across different Installations.
Systems engineering knowledge:
- Fully proficient in converting customer requirements/Needs to system requirements and PRS.
- Fully proficient in defining the duty cycles for the verification and validation activities of the machine and systems.
- Fully proficient in understanding the product features and performance impacting customer revenue generation
- Fully proficient in defining machine interfaces and boundary diagram.
- Fully proficient in concept selection process and tools (EG: PUGH Matrix with differentiators. Costing, DFMA, Serviceability.)
- Fully proficient in defining system and component level verification and validation
- Fully proficient in Standards related to machine design , Machinery Directive etc.(EN, MAHCINE DRECTIVE , AIS 137, ISO, SAE etc.)
- Fully proficient in performing System of interest, new content analysis, perform risk identification and reduction using SFMEA.
- Fully proficient hazard identification and reduction.
Skills:
- Fully proficient in defining Machine level concepts.
- Fully proficient with system level and machine level Cost and to set the Target in a project.
- Good networking with supplier to understand new technologies and processes (Electronic/Hyd components, Bearings etc.)
- Fully proficient with the supplier base for the product and their competency.
- Fully proficient in ensuring adherence to CAD guidelines, DMU.
- Fully proficient in root cause analysis of any system related issues
- Mostly effective on product quality tools like, FEA, VPD, Test methods, RG methodology.
- Considerable practical experience with manufacturing process of components (e.g.: Structural, Sheet metal, plastics, casting, wiring).
- Mostly effective with Hydraulic, Pwt, and E&E systems and its interface.
- Basic knowledge on SW development process and SW integration to machine and mostly effective to define the System requirements for SW development.
- Basic knowledge on measuring device like Multimeter, Megger, CAN analyser, CMM, EDAQ, Pressure gauges, accelerometers etc.
FORUMS (NETWORK OF INTERACTION)
- Interaction with Marketing and Regions on product specific reviews
- Interaction with Global Product Design team for machine outlook and DSM
- Interaction with Suppliers
- Interaction with Test houses
Education/Professional Qualifications required for the position:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- > 15 years in off-highway or construction equipment industry in design and development area
- > 5years in Road machinery Exterior component development and engineering
Additional Important Requirements:
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Good knowledge on MS Office (Excel, Ms Word, Power Point, etc.)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, the ability to create bridges for information exchange between functions and between locations.
- Creativity and innovative thinking
- Cross cultural experience
- Must be able to sit at a desk or stand at an assigned location and work continuously for extended periods of time, utilizing assigned office equipment. Must be able to walk through the production facility to work with manufacturing personnel. Must be able to operate and test machines or components. At times may lift materials weighing up to10kg.
