Expert Systems Engineer
Bangalore, IN, 560058
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Why this role matters
At Volvo CE, we are transforming how the world builds and maintains infrastructure – moving from traditional diesel solutions to smart, sustainable electromobility. In this role, you will be the technical “conductor” of that transformation for a family of products, ensuring that complex systems come together into robust, safe, and competitive machines. You will own the product and platform architecture, making sure our solutions are technically sound, manufacturable, cost-effective, and compliant with global standards – while pushing innovation and modularity for the future.
What you will do
You will work across all technical disciplines, focusing on product application and the technical integration of systems and technologies for both Diesel and Electro‑mobility products. Using your expertise in system architecture and systems engineering, you will:
- Orchestrate and follow up engineering tasks to meet targets for product performance, cost, quality and other technical objectives in development projects.
- Ensure international and internal standards are met for global manufacturing and sales.
- Secure architecture consistency and implementation across projects and products, in line with the agreed roadmap and strategy.
The overall aim is to create design solutions that balance technical performance, manufacturability and material cost, so that Volvo CE products are sustainable and competitive.
Your main responsibilities

- Product BOM and product configurations
- System and sub-system functional and physical requirements
- System integration and design rules
- Product risk management and FMEA activities
- Defining, analysing and reporting on key product parameters (e.g. cost, weight)
- Reviewing and approving design concepts, assembly drawings and manufacturing drawings
Ensure design compliance with internal and global standards, including:
-
- ISO standards and Machinery Directive applicable to Compactors, especially those related to safety requirements, protective measures, labels, manuals and markings
- Applicable ISO standards for verification of machine and system performance
- Legal and certification standards related to emissions, safety, noise and other regulatory requirements
- CE certification process and associated technical documentation (demonstrated experience required)
Lead system design and integration
-
- Apply working experience with hydraulic and powertrain system design and integration
- Perform machine-level performance and application-specific productivity calculations
- Support component selection to optimize machine power, speed, gradeability and other performance criteria
- Lead concept selection discussions in line with platform prerequisites, and manage platform decisions within projects
Translate customer needs into technical solutions
-
- Convert feature descriptions into technical project specifications
- Develop end-to-end functional specifications and system-level requirements aligned with overall product requirements
- Manage geometrical integration of systems and components, including geometry assurance
- Perform complete vehicle geometry analysis of weight and dimensions to meet QDCF (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature)
Be a technical partner across the business
-
- Provide technical assistance to Sales & Marketing, Production, and Service Engineering
- Define requirements and verification methods to validate agreed features
- Secure, maintain and develop feature knowledge over the long term for different segments, markets and applications
- Coordinate necessary certifications and approvals for components and systems according to project plans
- Maintain legal documents throughout the product lifetime
Shape the future platform
-
- Secure long-term vehicle development towards modularity, aligned with strategic plans and roadmaps
