Job Title : Group Manager – Durability/NVH Analysis & Feature

 

Department/Group Overview:

 Cab Engineering is a department within Vehicle Engineering Bangalore, responsible for developing Cabin Components and Systems for engineering sites globally. We work with all the Volvo group truck brands globally. We develop strategies and work on an Advanced engineering portfolio for Value range Trucks. We understand the customer needs and apply our knowledge to develop optimized technical solutions to meet customer expectations.

 

Durability/NVH Analysis & Feature is part of the CAE Analysis & Feature Section within the CAB Engineering Department. This group has the responsibility to support virtual verification & validation, Virtual method development using advanced calculation tools for the Truck CAB across brands within Volvo group, in the areas of System and Cabin Durability &  NVH. This team closely works with other CAB Engineering sites of Gothenburg, Lyon, Greensboro, Curitiba and Australia along with other alliance and JV partners, other business units delivering virtual validation of design, development work under its scope.

Group Manager – Durability/NVH Analysis & Feature will report to CAB Engineering Section Manager – CAE Analysis & Feature and will be part of the CAB Engineering Leadership Team at Bangalore.

 

Job Description:
As Group Manager – Durability/NVH Analysis & Feature, you will lead the activities such as: 

  • Prepare strategies and roadmaps for Simulation activities, Method development and Talent development.
  • Active Participation in the CAB Engineering Leadership team and contribute to the development and implementation of CAB department / Vehicle engineering / GTT Strategies and initiatives.
  • Active engagement in GTT Digital Transformation Simulation Subgroups, guiding team towards development and implementation of  Method development Proposals.
  • Drive innovation through Advanced engineering, Patent to industrialization & Continuous improvement (Products, Process, Methods).
  • Managing budget and resources, develop Team competence and hiring new talents to meet current and future needs.
  • Conduct Period Technical Project reviews, provide well-balanced direction (QDCCFS attributes) and facilitate seamless execution.
  • Collaborate with Global/local stakeholders/partners in planning and smooth execution of Projects (On-time, Cost, timelines).

Leadership

In this position you will be leading a large team of 25+ members (Direct & Consultants) dedicated to engineering, delivering great expectations according to our customers, as well as creating a great place to grow for our employees.

People development

  • Responsible for training, competency and overall career development of your team to meet both current and future competence requirements.
  • Manage workload, define roles within the team, define individual and team targets.
  • Recruit and develop effective teams where people take pride in being responsible for their complete deliveries.
  • Coach and mentor to build Technical Competency and future leaders of the team.
  • Act as a bridge for effective communication, assuring top-down and bottom-up distribution of information.
  • Play a key role in implementing the culture transformation journey to meet the organization’s expectations and goals.

Collaboration & Networking

  • •Active Contribution in global network, support development & documentation of analysis roadmaps for future methods and tool evolutions in Durability & NVH Analysis & Feature.
  • •Work closely with other departments exhibiting horizontal leadership along with other engineering teams in Group Trucks Technology, Group Trucks Operations, Purchasing and sales organization to align towards XFT requirements.
  • Plan availability of software licenses and hardware requirements of the team

 

Project Deliverables

  • Ensure the team delivers the highest levels of quality by meeting end to end Product/Performance requirements.
  • Work & direct the teams with customer-centric mindset and should support in driving analysis leadership within the team from conceptualization till maintenance of the systems and components designed, including field failures & end customer complaints as well as market adaptation, legal requirements and cost improvement areas.
  • Interface and participate in PI planning with other sites and ensure commitments towards delivery by the team. You shall have close interactions with other site managers to plan and adjust for any changes needed.
  • Secure that the group maintains an awareness of important technological developments both within and outside the truck industry for concerned technology areas.
  • Operations
  • Drive operational excellence and constantly improve your way of working, bringing efficiency in the deliveries.
  • Establish, maintain and control group budget to meet yearly set targets.
  • Responsible for team’s Priority setting, Performance Management, ECP Career development and Salary compensation as per People & Culture  framework & guidelines.
  • Build and strengthen the innovation culture within the team bringing patentable ideas into the organization’s focus areas to bring competitive advantage for the Volvo group.
  • Active role in supporting the team in Advanced Engineering, new product projects and maintenance projects of parts and systems in your area.
  • As a primary member of the CAB Engineering Leadership team, you shall identify, participate and contribute to the various management initiatives towards people & business growth along with GTT Bangalore site and vehicle engineering initiatives.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • BE / BTech / MS / MTech in Mechanical Engineering with strong knowledge in Durability & NVH domains
  • 15 + years of Automotive product development experience with good knowledge of Commercial Trucks and Performance attribute requirements
  • Should have structural design expertise of automotive components in areas such as Durability, NVH, MBD & MDO.
  • Exposure to Durability & NVH Physical testing and Validation.
  • Competency in CAE: Structural linear and nonlinear analysis, Fatigue life analysis, Transient & Frequency response analysis; NVH – Structure & Air borne analysis; Multi-body dynamics analysis; Multi-Disciplinary Optimization;
  • Should have experience in: Analysis correlation with physical testing and development of new load cases.
  • Experienced of leading people to carry out various CAE activities and collaboration with different sites.
  • Experience of handling Start-cost projects, Maintenance  projects (Quality  & VAVE) and Advanced Engineering projects.
  • Should be result oriented and always looking for continuous improvement at work.
  • Practical experience from agile and lean principles is preferred.
  • Good Communication and demonstrated Networking & Collaboration skills.
  • Prior People Leader experience is an added advantage applying to this position.
