Senior System Design Engineer – Powertrain System & Components (PE-S&C)

The Powertrain System & Components (PE-S&C) team within Powertrain Engineering Bangalore is responsible for delivering powertrain electrical and electronic systems and components for the Truck & Bus brands within the Volvo Group Trucks Technology. 

We are seeking a highly motivated & skilled Senior System Design Engineer with an overview of internal combustion engines (IC Engines), liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines, fuel cell technology (FCEV), and hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2 ICE). This role will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of powertrain systems for both conventional and alternative fuel technologies. This role involves collaborating with our global counterparts across multiple sites like Lyon, Gothenburg, Hagerstown, etc.


 
Job Summary

The Senior System Design Engineer with mechatronics competency works within the Powertrain System & Components (PE-S&C) group, responsible for designing and developing the Powertrain Engineering Electrical and Electronics (PE E&E) control systems, architecture, functions, and technical roadmaps for the team. Will be responsible for Functional Safety ISO26262 and Cyber Security ISO21434 implementation of Powertrain E&E system.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in Electrical & Electronics(E&E) systems engineering for powertrain systems.
  • Analyse and understand customer requirements, and effectively cascade them into detailed technical system requirements.
  • Define, write, review, and maintain system requirements in requirement management tools, in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to the development of software and hardware system architectures for powertrain applications.
  • Work with electronic control units (ECUs), vehicle architectures, control systems, and communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
  • Ensure the deployment of functional safety (ISO 26262) and cybersecurity (ISO 21434) concepts into system design.
  • Implement and support ASPICE processes to ensure structured and quality-driven system development.
  • Apply engineering quality methods such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA),  Root Cause Analysis (RCA ), etc., in daily activities.
  • Manage product knowledge and take ownership of system deliverables over time.
  • Drive activities across the product development life cycle, including change management for system maintenance and improvements.
  • Develop and manage robust time plans and system roadmaps aligned with project milestones.
  • Stay up to date with future technologies, with exposure to Hydrogen ICE and Fuel Cell Systems considered a strong merit.

 

Additional Information

Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • BE/BTech/ME/MTech with 8-10 years of experience in Electrical/Electronics and Communication Engineering.
  • Strong background in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with focus on automotive powertrain systems.
  • Experience in requirements engineering, system architecture, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Knowledge in the areas of Commercial Vehicle Systems and sub-subsystems.
  • Strong hands-on technical experience in Electrical/Electronic engineering and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of Software, Functional development, Diagnostics, and System platform development.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to learn on the job and deploy.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
