Role Description

As a Product Owner – Common Features, your mission is to deliver innovative, scalable, and customer-centric common software features and platforms that create value across multiple machine and vehicle products. You live and breathe the product, owning the vision, roadmap, and backlog while ensuring functional and technical integrity of the solutions.

You will drive the development of common features spanning Android-based systems, Infotainment Systems, Embedded Software Platforms, Connectivity Solutions, and Machine System Features. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, architects, UX designers, system engineers, business stakeholders, and global product organizations to define and prioritize features that maximize customer value and business impact.

Business acumen is critical for the Product Owner. You must understand customer needs, market trends, business objectives, and technology evolution to make informed product decisions. You will act as the bridge between business and engineering, ensuring alignment across global stakeholders.

Communication is a key aspect of the role. The Product Owner works closely with multiple stakeholders across regions and functions, effectively translating business requirements into actionable product deliverables.

You will contribute significantly by joining a highly skilled global product development organization with colleagues located across India, Sweden, Germany, Korea, China, and other regions.

The position holder will report to the Group Manager – Common Embedded Software Solutions.

 

Responsibilities

Product Ownership

  • Own and drive the roadmap for Common Features across Android, Infotainment, Connectivity, and Machine Systems.
  • Act as the global product owner for common software platforms and reusable feature components.
  • Define product vision, strategy, and business objectives for the feature portfolio.
  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog based on business value, customer needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Ensure alignment of feature development with product strategy and organizational goals.

Feature & Platform Management

  • Be the global point of contact for common software features and applications.
  • Ensure consistency, scalability, and reusability of features across multiple products and machine platforms.
  • Drive the development of Android-based applications, services, and platform capabilities.
  • Own infotainment-related feature requirements, user experiences, and integration aspects.
  • Lead feature development across machine HMI, user interfaces, connectivity, telematics, and digital user experiences.
  • Work closely with system architects to ensure platform architecture supports long-term product evolution.

System & Technical Leadership

  • Ensure proper utilization of software architecture, platform components, and reusable modules.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and architects on feature decomposition and implementation strategies.
  • Balance product variability while maximizing commonality across machine platforms.
  • Evaluate technical trade-offs and drive informed product decisions.
  • Support cybersecurity, functional safety, and quality requirements as applicable.

Quality & Release Management

  • Be accountable for feature functionality, quality, and product readiness.
  • Drive continuous improvement of product quality, performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Own and maintain feature roadmaps, release plans, and milestone commitments.
  • Monitor feature delivery progress and mitigate risks proactively.
  • Ensure successful feature validation, acceptance, and deployment.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with customers, business stakeholders, development teams, UX teams, and suppliers.
  • Collect, analyze, and prioritize market and customer requirements.
  • Align feature priorities across different product platforms and business areas.
  • Communicate product vision, priorities, and release plans across global teams.

Authorities

  • Own and drive the product roadmap for Common Features across multiple product platforms.
  • Prioritize and approve product backlog items based on business and customer value.
  • Approve software requirements, feature definitions, and product release content.
  • Drive decisions related to feature scope, prioritization, and roadmap alignment.
  • Approve product-related documentation including requirements, release notes, and version descriptions.
  • Drive product improvements to increase customer value, quality, usability, and performance.
  • Escalate and resolve product conflicts involving scope, priorities, and technical dependencies.

 

Required Competencies

Education

  • BE/B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related disciplines.

Experience

  • 8–12+ years of experience in Embedded Software, Automotive, Off-Highway, Industrial, or Connected Systems domains.
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Manager, System Owner, or Feature Owner.
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Agile Product Development).

Technical Expertise

  • Experience with Android Operating System, Android Framework, and Android Application Ecosystem.
  • Experience working with Android-based Infotainment Systems and Human Machine Interface (HMI) solutions.
  • Understanding of Infotainment architectures, multimedia systems, connectivity, and user experience design.
  • Experience with Machine Systems, Vehicle Systems, or Embedded Control Systems.
  • Good understanding of embedded software architecture and software development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Connectivity, Telematics, Cloud Integration, OTA Updates, and Digital Services.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR, Linux, Android Automotive, or Embedded Linux is a strong advantage.
  • Understanding of system engineering methodologies and requirement management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Automotive, Off-Highway Equipment, Construction Equipment, Agricultural Machinery, or Industrial Machine Systems.
  • Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS).
  • Knowledge of Product Management and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) practices.
  • Experience working with globally distributed development organizations.
  • Passion for innovative digital experiences, connected ecosystems, and machine intelligence.
