Job Description - STD Part Administrator – Mech parts
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The STD Part administrator is Responsible and accountable for the lifecycle management of Mechanical Standard (STD) parts across all global sites of Volvo TTI. The role bridges engineering, purchasing, supplier management, and innovation to ensure the availability, quality, and continuous improvement of STD parts —supporting both Volvo group and partners like UD trucks as part of a collaboration agreement.
QUALIFICATION & COMPETENCIES
- B.E / B.Tech / M.E / M.Tech within Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 12+ years of experience in automotive systems / STD parts domain.
- Robust awareness of product/part life cycle management, design & development process, documentation, engineering release process, sustainability & circularity concepts.
- Knowledge on Manufacturing processes and product quality for STD parts.
- Proven experience working in cross-functional and global environments, managing multiple projects
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with high integrity and passion for standardization.
- Knowledge of external standards and exposure to various STD organizations.
- Self-driven, collaborative team player with the ability to make decisions in uncertain situations
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and govern the Mechanical Standard Parts portfolio (dismountable joints – metallic & non-metallic standard parts) across the Volvo Group, ensuring standardisation, consistency, compliance, and lifecycle management.
- Drive product ownership and roadmap development for STD parts, aligning future solutions with business strategy, QDCF targets, sustainability goals, and upcoming product requirements.
- Lead the development, release, documentation, and maintenance of new and existing STD parts, while maximising re-use of the standard parts portfolio across projects.
- Act as the Global Part Family Responsible for assigned standard parts, providing technical leadership and decision-making support across Volvo Group organisations.
- Serve as the primary technical interface between Product Development, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Aftermarket, suppliers, alliance partners, and global stakeholders on all STD part-related matters.
- Drive innovation, advanced engineering, and digital transformation initiatives by collaborating with suppliers, external partners, and internal teams to introduce new technologies and future-ready solutions.
- Lead proactive quality, regulatory compliance, and risk management activities, including support for product changes, supplier issues, approvals, and continuous improvement of the existing portfolio.
- Support sourcing and supplier development activities, promoting innovation, quality excellence, sustainability, and cost competitiveness while enabling supplier growth and resourcing strategies.
- Contribute to global governance and strategic forums (e.g., TAGs, XF forums), influencing standardisation decisions and aligning Mechanical STD part strategies across TTI and Volvo Group.
- Provide expert guidance, coaching, and capability development to engineers and new team members through technical support, structured training, mentoring, and competency-building initiatives.
- Drive knowledge management and best-practice deployment through the development of guidelines, reference documents, technical catalogues, and reusable engineering knowledge.
- Support alliance partners with STD part responsibilities as defined under the inter-company agreement
