What you will do

We are seeking an Intern - Embedded software developer to join our team at Volvo.

You will develop, test, and optimize software for embedded systems, collaborating with System other SW and System engineers to ensure the smooth operation of devices and systems.

Objectives of this role

  1. Designing and developing embedded software for Thermal Management - Cab Climate system.
  2. Developing software that meets performance, reliability, and scalability standards.
  3. Optimizing software performance, including memory usage, processing speed, and energy efficiency.
  4. Working with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux environments.
  5. Developing and maintaining technical documentation for software development and testing.
  6. Documenting software design, coding practices, and maintenance procedures.
  7. Ensuring the software meets industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  8. Perform requirement breakdown, software design, documentation, implementation, testing and verification. Integrate deliveries from others.


Your tasks

  1. Analyze project requirements and translate them into embedded software design specifications.
  2. Write efficient, reusable embedded code that interfaces with hardware components such as sensors, actuators, and communication modules.
  3. Test and debug software using simulation tools, and on-target testing methods in simulated environments before deployment to real-world devices.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and validate product functionality.
  5. Implement software updates and enhancements in existing embedded systems.
  6. Prepare technical documentation, including design specs and code annotations.

Who are you?

Required skills and qualifications

  • Masters/Bachelor’s degree in computer science /electrical/ Electronics / Engineering.
  • Registered member of NATs program
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C or Model based development.
  • Knowledge of RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems), embedded Linux, and other embedded platforms.
  • Good understanding of embedded systems.
  • In-depth understanding of microcontrollers, microprocessors, and hardware-software interaction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with hardware/software interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of Automotive SW development is an advantage.
