What you will do
Volvo Financial Services (VFS) Southeast is seeking a dynamic and strategic Legal and Compliance Counsel to support our operations across Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary. The Legal and Compliance Counsel will provide strategic legal and compliance advice for Southeast Market and act as a subject-matter expert on insurance distribution requirements. The Counsel will be responsible for overseeing and advising the Volvo Financial Services entities in Southeast market, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and supporting strategic initiatives in the leasing (financial and operational), loan and insurance distribution sectors.
Furthermore, the Legal and Compliance Counsel will drive and secure the implementation of the organization’s legal and compliance requirements within the market. This includes developing contracting strategies, advising on customer interactions, and engaging with key vendors and partners. The role will position the Counsel as a strategic partner and trusted advisor, supporting market growth and operational excellence.
As Legal Counsel you will need to:
- Provide legal advice and support on all aspects of the company's activities in the Southeast market.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments related to insurance distribution, leasing, and other relevant sectors and implement appropriate compliance frameworks.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal compliance policies and procedures aligned with applicable standards.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of external legal firms, ensuring effective management of legal services and external counsel.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify potential legal or regulatory issues.
- Support regulatory filings required for financial services and insurance distribution activities.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage contractual negotiations and review of key agreements with partners, customers and vendors.
- Handle regulatory inquiries, inspections, and audits, representing the company in interactions with authorities.
- Support adherence with anti-money laundering (AML), data protection, DORA, NIS 2 and other core compliance standards.
- Assist and support local teams in implementing Volvo Group and Volvo Financial Services directives, guidelines and instructions, while recognizing and addressing any local deviations.
Your future team
The Legal and Compliance Counsel will be an integral part of the Southeast management team, working closely with senior leadership to support regional strategic objectives. Additionally, the Counsel will work in close collaboration with the VFS Global Legal and Compliance team and other key stakeholders across the Volvo Group to address core compliance topics, identify and leverage synergies, and promote a cohesive approach to legal and regulatory matters.

- Experience in financial services (leasing) and insurance distribution field
Qualifications Required To Be Successful In This Role Include:
- Master’s degree in law
- Five years of experience working as in-house counsel in either the insurance distribution or lease industry
- Strong understanding of insurance distribution regulations and financial services (leasing industry) laws
- Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of regional languages is a plus.
- Integrity and unquestionable ethics
