Description thesis work

For this thesis work you will join our Structure Department at site Braås, part of Volvo CE and home of the articulated hauler.

Problem description:

Dumper body is the component to carry mass load from A to B. One known problem in this industry is so called ‘carry-back’ problem. This means that some of the transport material get stuck in the dumper body and is carried back, which means a loss of productivity. The ‘exhaust gas heating’ system has been a simple and dominant solution for the industry. But for electrical vehicle this solution is not valid any longer. There have been many other ideas tested, but yet no practical solution that can be implement to the Articulated Hauler has been found.
Geometrical improvement for carry-back problems has been done with good progress and it needs to be completed by additional system to replace the traditional exhaust gas heating system.
One option is to use electrical energy to heat up the dumper body. Then we need to know how efficient the system can be and how much energy consumption it would require. We need to investigate different ways of  transferring energy, different areas to heat up, different time periods to heat up, and so on to find the most efficient solution.
