Service Market Logistics (SML) is part of Group Trucks Operations (GTO). We are an organization of approximately 4,000 employees globally in more than 40 locations. What You Will Do - Mission/Purpose of the Position

The Service Market Packaging Engineer position works in an agile team environment. The Service Market Packaging Engineer is part of the Service Market Logistics North American organization, with direct line to the Byhalia, Mississippi Central Distribution Center management team. We are on an automation and digitalization journey.

 

As Service Market Packaging Engineer, you will work closely with colleagues across the end-to-end value chain in Service Market Logistics and other areas of the Volvo Group to ensure current and future operational excellence within the service market packaging area for the North America region.

 

You will report to the Packaging and Delivery Manager and support your Service Market Packaging Engineer colleagues with operational activities to ensure that packaging decisions are made early in the development of a new spare part and that packaging requirements are included from the start of the sourcing process. The position manages cost-efficient and harmonized packaging solutions that drive brand image, sales, and customer satisfaction for Volvo Group brands.

Scope & Influence

This position reports to the Packaging and Delivery Manager located at the Byhalia, MS Central Distribution Center.

What You Will Do - Essential Functions

We are looking for a person that can create trustful relations within and outside the Volvo Group. We are all leaders, and we want you to use your leadership skills to deliver on our different tasks and to drive change, pushing the current state. It’s important to have a technical interest to understand our products and the ability to put that into a supply chain context. You have a commercial and operational mindset, as we are involved in both the selling and buying of parts.

 

• Support the Byhalia Distribution Center in the daily operations with topics related to packaging & quality to identify root cause and bring long term process improvements.

• Participating in the product development, to decide upon sustainable global packaging solutions fulfilling Volvo Group branding, environmental, quality, and packaging requirements for spare parts.

• Optimize packaging and storage cost in the supply chain (for new and existing spare parts).

• Participate in the development of the strategy of how we would like to work with packaging in Service Market Logistics to secure the end-to-end flow.

• Participate in the development of how to work with new part numbers.

• Contribute with packaging expertise to the entire Service Market Logistics organization.

• Act according to the Volvo values.

 

Who Are You - Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Packaging Engineering, or a related field; or related Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience

• Minimum 3 years of service market logistics/supply chain experience

• Packaging knowledge, with focus on spare parts packaging preferred

• Continuous Improvement/Lean/Six Sigma/Problem Solving Methodology knowledge and experience is a plus

• Experience working with engineering CAD drawings

• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment striving towards operational excellence guided by Volvo’s Values and the Code of Conduct

 

Who Are You - Necessary Technical/Functional/Language Skills

• As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required

• Strong written, verbal, and communication skills

• Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work successfully in a global environment

• Solid analytical skills and the ability to apply this in a business context

• IT knowledge (VG applicable systems) and the drive to develop IT solutions

• Data analysis software (R, Python) skills preferred

• Machine learning (Minitab, JMP, Python and R) skills preferred

• Data visualization (e.g., PowerBi, Mindmanager, Visio) skills preferred

• Process automation software (Power Automation, Power apps) skills preferred

• 3D modelling - Creo View, Catia, SolidWorks, Autodesk inventor skills preferred

 

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $83,550 - $103,100 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
