Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Head of Business Development – Data Centers to lead our knowledge base, growth, and sales in the data center power segment. This role will focus on expanding our market presence by promoting our engine solutions and applications for power generation used in mission-critical data center environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the data center ecosystem, key influences and decision making process for backup power infrastructure, and the role of engines in generator performance and reliability. Additionally, they will understand the footprint, future possibilities and economic trends to assist in acquiring new business and develop proposal materials and presentations for current and future customers. Ultimately, this individual will be the subject matter expert for the data center segment and growth for Volvo Penta North America. Involved in establishing the strategic direction for market approach and trends, brand recognition, coordinating across cross functional teams, and proposing new business ideas and respective campaigns to drive revenue growth and build market share. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research: Understand the Data Center landscape including global footprint, areas or countries with potential for growth, OEMs prospects, end customer, government regulations and incentives. Clearly compile and share findings with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Market Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the data center sector, focusing on backup power applications.
  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with data center key decision makers, OEMs, and various stakeholders to understand their power reliability needs.
  • Solution Selling: Position our engine products as integral components of generator systems, highlighting performance, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with generator manufacturers and system integrators to develop joint value propositions.
  • Industry Intelligence: Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies in data center power infrastructure.
  • Proposal Development: Lead the creation of technical and commercial proposals in coordination with our OEM customers.
  • Driving Sales Growth: Integrate with our OEM sales team to develop and manage sales pipelines, forecasts, and performance metrics.
  • Product Development: Work closely with product management, engineering, to shape our product offering to be alligned with current and future market needs.
  • Marketing: Work closely with our marketing team to develop a datacenter marketing strategy and plan. 
  • Spokesperson: You’ll be at the forefront of our data center solutions development, sales, and building of this business. You will attend trade shows, work with marketing, educate colleagues, and leadership about the data center world.

Who are you?

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in business development, account management, or sales related to power generation or the data center industry
  • Deep understanding of backup power systems, generator sets, and engine technologies
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and building strategic relationships

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with data centers of various tiers
  • Familiarity with diesel, gas and other engine technologies
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and certifications relevant to power systems
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to interface with all levels of employees, leaders, customers, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Products (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) daily
  • Can read, write, understand and speak English. Bilingual (English plus Spanish, Swedish, etc.) a plus

This job is an on-site position along with flexibility based on Volvo Group work principles and coordination with your manager

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $159,900 - $197,500 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
