We are seeking a System Verification Engineer – Electromobility (incl. battery storage system), Calibration & Verification. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our products raise the bar in the marketplace. You will lead verification activities, contribute to the full project lifecycle, and drive continuous improvement in our engineering processes. What you will do:

  • Define and work with the implementation plan for assigned projects, with the engine development team, to develop and support the electrical/electronic needs for the product and projects
  • Be involved from the first prototype to serial production, working alongside enthusiastic, cross-functional teams
  • Cooperate within Volvo Penta and Volvo Group globally to integrate components and functionality in Volvo Penta projects and design
  • Lead and conduct rigorous verification testing to ensure our solutions meet and exceed project requirements
  • Calibrate and optimize products, collaborating closely with hardware and software teams. Understand and document unique software functions for Volvo Penta's applications
  • Work primarily at our Chesapeake, VA and Suffolk, VA sites, with opportunities to engage with colleagues and customers in North America.

Who are you?

  •  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (technical experience preferably electrical and/or electronic engineering)
  • 2+ years of work experience in system verification, validation, and testing methodologies and tools
  • Background in driveline calibration and/or verification, ideally within electromobility and battery storage system, includes on component level.
  • Experience with interface with tools like ATI Vision, ETAS INCA and CANalyzer is a plus.
  • Knowledge in electronic control unit (ECU) hardware and embedded software and ECU programming and diagnostic protocols (CCP, ISO 15765, ISO 14229, etc.).
  • Moderate experience with Microsoft products (Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all levels of employees, leaders, customers, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Can read, write, understand and speak English. Bilingual in other languages a plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfortable working across organizational boundaries


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with data centers of various tiers
  • Familiarity with diesel, gasoline and other engine technologies
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and certifications relevant to power systems
  • Familiarity in the 8D process – Problem solving

Other requirements:

  • This job requires both domestic and international travel with the ability to travel for several weeks at a time
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • This job is an on-site position along with flexibility based on Volvo Group work principles and coordination with your manager.

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $96,000 - $118,500 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
