This position reports to Head of Retail Development North America and provides leadership for all matters at VCES. This is a highly visible position that requires collaboration with Volvo Construction Equipment and its various functions in North America, as well as our extensive network of customers and stakeholders in California.

You will be responsible for the development, execution, and delivery of strategic business plans, with a focus on revenue and market share growth for all represented product lines, as well as profitable results for VCES.  

The position directs all financial, sales/marketing, strategic/tactical/operational planning and is responsible for the leadership and direction of the senior management team, as well as the management of relationships with all represented vendors and business partners. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing a strategic plan aligned with both the business’s objectives and strategic vendors, in an effort to advance the results of the business.  Determines progress and status in attaining the objectives and revises plans in accordance with current market conditions.
  • Full P&L responsibility of 8 branches located across California, with approximately 140 employees.
  • Directs all day-to-day operations, resources, and operational management systems, striving to achieve maximum return on invested capital.
  • Responsible for assessing business needs relative to people and capital, and advocates for the business to gain resources from ownership. 
  • Sets long term operational objectives. Directs the development and implementation of all company operational control systems, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Directs all inventory needs for the business. 
  • Ensures that policies, systems, and procedures meet Volvo and VCES standards. 
  • Coordinates the efforts of senior executives at VCES.  Manages with the support of the governance team to develop current and long-range objectives, policies, and procedures for the organization.  
  • Represents the Company to its vendors, customers, general public, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitates the legal efforts to protect the Company’s right to conduct business and compliance, within the territory where the business operates.
  • Ensures the Company maintains high standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility wherever it does business.
  • Manages and negotiates all dealer agreements with allied vendors.
  • Negotiates and manages all lease agreements for the 8 locations in the territory.
  • Negotiates and manages union contracts for 2 of the eight branches within the territory.
  • Provide leadership to achieve high employee engagement and a high-performance culture throughout the business delivering commercial and customer success.

Required knowledge and experience:

  • Experience at a senior management level with proven managerial skills
  • Extensive experience in change management, building efficient management and organizational structures.
  • Good technical understanding and interest
  • Sound commercial understanding and well-rounded business management skills
  • A proven track record in managing business to deliver profitability and cash flow performance
  • Able to develop strategies and business plans, and maintain a pragmatic perspective to deliver the desired results
  • Able to build and utilize a network of relationships to support delivery of results
  • A credible presence with the ability to articulate and present a confident image to stakeholders (Customers, Employees and colleagues in the wider Group)

 

Education/Professional Qualifications required for the position:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area of study required. 
  • MBA or equivalent is preferred. 
  • Minimum 10-15 years of successful, progressive experience in Dealer and Commercial Management processes
  • Minimum 10 years in the construction equipment or related technical industry. 
  • Commitment and experience in developing best practices in customer focused and process-based organizations.

Other considerations:

  • Travel is frequent within the territory, as well to various venues throughout the state of California.  Additionally, there will be occasional travel throughout the remainder of US, as well as occasional international travel for meetings associated with the industry and vendor events.
  • The selected candidate must currently reside or be willing to relocate to the headquarters location in or near Corona, CA.

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base salary range is set at $240,000-$300,000, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered,  is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.  *Please note that a location differential may be applied, depending on the selected candidate's geographical location within California.
