Mechanical Engineer - Volvo Buses Vehicle Dynamics

We are looking for a mechanical engineer to work as product development engineer at Volvo Buses in Brazil, in order to add value to our organization, bringing technical knowledge and the necessary soft skills to develop systems and component installation, in a global organization interacting with adjacent areas within engineering department and out of it (production, after market, quality, external supplier & partners, etc.). Leading or attending meetings in English daily.

 

Your future team

We are a team that works on the development of bus chassis parts and products, consisting of three distinct areas: an electrical engineering area, a mechanical engineering area, an electromobility area and a project management and verification & validation area. This position is focused on mechanical engineering area specifically on vehicle dynamics (steering, tires & wheels and suspension). Also, you will interface with all the areas described above, besides other areas of the company, like production, after market, purchasing, commercial, etc., having the opportunity to contribute to knowledge growth of the team and learn from the existing team members, while doing professional activities.

 

Responsibilities:

We develop and maintain bus chassis systems and components, besides their installation.


Your main activities will include:
• Participate on the development of steering system, suspension and tires & wheels with focus on component installation and media routing, but also covering end user function, system development, validations, features and Cyber Security.
• Be a local support for steering, suspension and tires & wheels issues related to buses, supporting many different areas of Volvo do Brasil, counting with technical support from the Volvo Buses system owner, component owners and feature leaders placed at Sweden.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including teams responsible for chassis frame, cooling system, brakes, BBS, wiring harness and power cables, engine compartment, engine and transmission, inlet system, EATS & UDS, etc.
• Manage workload and supervise technically the deliveries of the design engineers working in Brazilian Vehicle Dynamics team.
• Create test requisitions to validate steering and suspension systems after implementing technical changes, with support from Volvo Buses system owner, component owners and feature leaders placed at Sweden.
• Participating in several phases of the product life cycle, from Advanced Engineering to Product Development, from Product Maintenance to Product End of life.
• Attend to and lead meetings in English with different kind of stakeholders from Brazil and from other countries in daily basis.
• Model 3D parts in Catia (sheet metal, pipes, hoses, and cad modules), besides detailing technical drawings using GD&T.
• Eventually traveling for technical alignment with Volvo partners and with internal stakeholders at Volvo plants and headquarters in foreign countries (mainly Sweden).

 

Who are you?

• Graduated in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience modeling 3D parts/system and detailing technical drawings using GD&T. Mastering Catia V5 or PRO-E is a must.
• Strong experience working in automotive industry.
• Communication, emotional intelligence, flexibility, and negotiation skills are mandatory to lead the cross functional agreements about technical solutions with internal and external stakeholders.
• Fluent English is also mandatory, due to daily meetings in English.
• Ownership, teamwork, and self-learning behavior (we are accountable for our deliveries as we were the company owners, and we learn from the fly).
• Technical knowledge in vehicle dynamics is desired. Willing to increase/develop vehicle dynamics system knowledge gradually in near future is also expected.
• Ability to work in groups and leadership.
