Who are we?
Powertrain Technology, part of the Trucks Technology & Industrial Division, plays a crucial role in enhancing the Volvo Group’s competitive position by developing and maintaining high-quality, cost-effective products that comply with all regulatory requirements. Our work encompasses the engineering and design of engines, drivelines, and aftertreatment systems, with a focus on delivering world-class solutions for Volvo trucks and buses in South America. We collaborate closely with engineering centers in Sweden, France, India, and USA to drive global development. The Mechanical Design and Structural Simulation team, within Powertrain Technology Curitiba, is responsible for developing reliable solutions for Volvo vehicles that will be applied in all markets where our products are present.

Position description:
In this role, we expect a motivated simulation engineer to perform structural analysis using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) of our engine components. This person will work closely with design and component engineers to deliver reliable solutions for new products, and support maintenance tasks as well. Our group is part of the global engineering team within powertrain; therefore, the conclusions drawn will support global decisions within the main Volvo Group products.
Main activities:
- Perform structural simulation and analysis on Powertrain components and systems through Finite Element Analysis
- To define loads and boundary conditions for components/systems.
- To be able to mesh components with required quality.
- Virtually verify components/systems.
- Optimize components/systems to reduce weight/cost.
- To provide input to concept, component and system selection.
- Interact with global design team – take inputs, run analysis, write and present technical reports.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Mechanical Engineering graduate.
- Experience in fatigue, vibration and static analysis.
- Software skills desired: Ansys APDL, ANSA and Meta Post, or equivalent software.
- Automation skills using Python or any scripting language.
- Good understanding of materials, awareness of powertrain parts and accessories.
- Strong commitment to deliver on time with consistent and strict adherence to quality.
- Fluent English communication skills.
This selection process will be conducted with the support of the consulting firm Apriori.
