Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
What you will do
Are you passionate about driving innovation through data science while making a measurable difference in sustainability? At Volvo Group Digital & IT (VG D&IT), we're at the forefront of leveraging data to create meaningful impact in industries worldwide. We're seeking talented individuals to join our diverse and dynamic team, where you'll collaborate with experts across various disciplines to deliver end-to-end data solutions and AI products for users across the globe.
Role Description:
The Data Scientist Chapter is located in Sweden (Gothenburg and Eskilstuna), and France (Lyon). The Data Scientist position will be located in Curitiba, Brazil.
About the Data Function:
Our 'Data' function is a vibrant, international community with 900+ members across seven countries. We collaborate closely with various divisions, business areas, and group functions within the Volvo Group to foster an environment where ideas flourish, and goals are achieved collaboratively.
As a “Data Scientist” with us, you will:
- Deliver customer value: Work with global stakeholders to frame problems, define success metrics, and ship solutions.
- Own the lifecycle: Design, build, deploy, and operate ML/AI products (CI/CD, monitoring, model/feature/version management).
- Continuous maintenance/supervision: You will have to keep an eye on the model drift and together with the business decide when tweaks are needed to improve current pipelines.
- Text analytics & LLMs: Apply NLP/LLMs for classification.
- Standards & compliance: Design with security, governance, and regulatory constraints in mind.
- Lead: Lead the team and the Analytics portion of it. Plan tasks, discuss them, help other colleagues with their work.
Meriting Competencies:
- Applied DS/ML/AI: Statistics, ML, experimental design, and production patterns (features, drift, evaluation).
- Platforms & tooling: Azure, Databricks, Python, SQL, Git; strong MLOps with Azure Pipelines + Databricks Jobs.
- Architecture: Cloud data/compute basics, model packaging, dependency management, observability (logs/metrics/traces).
- Software practices: Code reviews, tests, reproducibility, infra-as-code, documentation. High quality code is one of our main pillars in the chapter.
- Communication: Explain complex results to non-experts; fluent English (additional local language a plus). You will need to talk with specialists from US & Canada, hence the English should be at a very good level so that you can translate business requirements in “what to do next”.
Nice to have:
- LLM depth: Retrieval, prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, safety/guardrails, cost/performance tuning.
- Regulated environments: Industrialization/commercialization of ML/AI under governance and audit.
- Domain experience: Vehicle data (diagnostics, fault codes, telematics), quality/warranty analytics.
- Leadership: Owning ML products end-to-end; mentoring; leading practitioner communities.
- Academics: Advanced degree or equivalent impact.
- Experience: Strong experience applied DS (manufacturing/automotive/transport preferred).
