Job Description
Virtual Simulation is part of the Powertrain Engineering Application Center in Curitiba and is responsible for performing simulation & analysis in powertrain and driveline for several products of the Volvo Group. This covers structural, noise, energy, fluid, function and control systems simulations. We have co-operations with our colleagues in Gothenburg (Sweden), Lyon (France), Hagerstown (USA), Ageo (Japan).

As a structural simulation engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out simulation activities and analysis in powertrain and driveline areas for all our products: medium and heavy-duty diesel engines, hybrid systems, transmissions, and rear axles.
You will also be responsible for working with global teams and creating an environment where design concepts are proven through simulation analysis and test models.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Perform linear and non-linear static analyses on full systems and sub-assemblies.
- Perform explicit analyses on full systems and sub-assemblies.
- Perform kinematic analyses on full systems and sub-assemblies.
- Perform structural analyses to evaluate the durability of components subjected to high thermal and mechanical loads (static and dynamic).
- Perform noise analyses to evaluate noise radiation from engine and driveline components.
- Reproduce failure modes and propose solutions.
- Coordinate with the Test Engineering Team to develop and execute test plans for simulation correlation and identify locations for instrumentation on products.
- Develop and write engineering reports to development teams.
- Facilitate design engineers in evaluating new and alternate designs through mechanical simulation.
- Assist in the continuous development of simulation technologies for the analysis of engine and driveline components.
- Train and mentor R&D mechanical/design engineers on FEA tools, simulation methods, and standards.
Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Master of Science (equivalent to Engineer degree in Brazil) –
- Mechanical
- Strong communication skills in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work in group as well as with people from other culture. Desirable life experience outside Brazil.
- Knowledge of hand calculations for design analysis.
- Knowledge of
- structural and thermal simulation tools of components, preferably ABAQUS. Nice to have ANSYS (
- mechanical APDL).
- Knowledge of tools for pre-processing, preferably ANSA. Nice to have Hypermesh.
- Knowledge of tools for post-processing, preferably META-Post.
- Knowledge of programming languages: Linux / Unix /Matlab / Python.
- Knowledge in vibration and fatigue. Nice to have in noise.
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD, preferably CREO.
