Volvo Trucks North America’s New River Valley (NRV) Plant, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to join our Assembly team.

As the largest plant in the Volvo Group globally, the NRV Plant is at the heart of Volvo Trucks’ North American manufacturing operations. With more than 2 million square feet under roof across a 550+ acre site, the plant produces 100% of the Volvo trucks built for the North American market. What you will do

As a Production Supervisor, you will be a key leader on the Assembly team, responsible for leading people and delivering production performance in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

You will lead a team of production employees and play a critical role in ensuring we meet our commitments for safety, quality, delivery, productivity and employee engagement. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who enjoys developing people, solving problems and driving continuous improvement.

You will work closely with employees and cross-functional partners to identify opportunities, remove barriers and ensure your team has the resources, training and support needed to succeed.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop production employees, creating a high-performing team built on trust, accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.
• Establish clear expectations and priorities while maintaining open, two-way communication with team members.
• Own daily production performance for your assigned area, supporting production schedules, productivity, efficiency and overall business objectives.
• Lead World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, productivity and customer satisfaction.
• Partner with Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics and other cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve production performance.
• Develop employee training and development plans, identify skill gaps and ensure team members have the knowledge and competencies required to perform their roles safely and effectively.
• Build and maintain effective production teams using MOST time-study principles, including resource allocation, vacation planning and absentee coverage.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and applicable bargaining unit agreements while maintaining a fair and consistent work environment.
• Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring safe work practices, proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment, and high standards of housekeeping.
• Ensure employees have the appropriate training, tools, equipment and work instructions to consistently meet production requirements.
• Use data and daily performance information to identify trends, address issues and drive sustainable improvements.
• Engage employees in problem-solving and continuous improvement, encouraging employee-driven ideas and sharing successful practices across the organization.
• Recognize team accomplishments and create an environment where employees feel valued, supported and connected to the success of the business.

Who are you?

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience leading people in a production or manufacturing environment.
• 4+ years of manufacturing or production experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
• Experience in the commercial vehicle or automotive industry preferred.
• Demonstrated experience leading, developing and engaging employees in a complex production environment.
