Professional Industrial Engineer - Logistics
Dublin, VA, US, 24084
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
What you will do
At Volvo Trucks North America you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry and society at large. You will:
You will be responsible for the material flow processes that occur between our third-party logistics providers (“3PL”) and Volvo New River Valley plant ("NRV"), supporting daily operations as well as new product introductions and industrialization activities. As the logistics engineer for 3PL, you will advise 3PL on process requirements from goods receipt through delivery to the NRV plant. You will analyze material flow, equipment, space, cost, and transportation to optimize the end-to-end flow. The role requires close alignment with 3PL and Volvo internal stakeholders alike. In addition, you will act as a Scrum Master, supporting and enabling an agile team to deliver robust logistics flow solutions.
Core Responsibilities
- Work directly on designing new--and improving existing--internal logistics material flows (from site goods receiving to final point of use) that utilize lean manufacturing concepts.
- Primary point of contact for processes that are directly related to the interaction between 3PL and Volvo NRV internal material flow, including problem solving and root cause analysis.
- Develop new logistics strategies and align decisions with key stakeholders, including in-house versus 3PL responsibilities. Must be able to make data-driven decisions with the latest data analysis tools (AI, Power BI, etc.).
- Utilize industrial computer-aided drafting (CAD) applications to design floor layouts, visualize flows, and analyze space utilization.
- Embrace the Volvo Performance System to aid in our continuous improvement journey, including safety/ergonomics, labor utilization, space utilization, standardized work, line balancing, waste reduction, etc.
- Analyze transportation requirements, including trailer lane needs and logistics network impacts.
- Work closely with other functions—such as manufacturing engineering, maintenance, quality, finance, material planning & control, production scheduling, and others—to negotiate and align needs of the production team.
- Coordinate Agile meetings as Scrum Master to assure features tasks are being delivered on time.
- Have the opportunity to support several areas within the production facility—body-in-white (BIW), paint, main truck final assembly—as well as leverage best practices from other Volvo Group sites located across the globe.
Your future team
You will belong to the Volvo NRV Logistics Engineering Final Assembly department, reporting to the manager of that department. You are located onsite at the Volvo NRV plant in Dublin, Virginia and also occasional local travel to various 3PL sites.
