What you will do

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Manufacturing Engineer specialized in Automation and Controls. In this role, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging your expertise to optimize automation systems, enhance equipment reliability, and support production excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain automation and control systems for manufacturing processes, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to Electrical and Controls Technicians within your area of specialization.
  • Respond promptly to production issues, providing on-call when necessary to support minimize downtime and maintain schedule adherence.
  • Conduct controls system assessments, identify opportunities for reliability and efficiency improvements, and implement corrective actions.
  • Program, modify, and optimize PLC/PC controllers.
  • Develop systems to support operations and maintenance to monitor and act upon downtime issues.
  • Analyze operational data and perform root cause analysis to resolve recurring issues and improve process stability.
  • Review, validate, and update electrical schematics, control diagrams, and related documentation.
  • Evaluate machine components for lifecycle management, replacement planning, and upgrade opportunities.
  • Develop procedures and best practices to maximize equipment uptime and process efficiency.
  • Determine and implement the most effective maintenance strategies, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Create, update, and distribute maintenance and control system documentation.
  • Support achievement of key performance indicators such as MTBF, MTTR, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions that support new product launches and process improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing excellence and operational goals.
  • Contribute to the development of a long-term automation strategy and road map that aligns with corporate goals, ensuring consistency, scalability, and future-proofing of automation systems.
  • Assist in defining the automation infrastructure, technology standards, and integration strategies to ensure consistency and scalability across the plant.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 10 years of professional experience in controls engineering within automotive or manufacturing environments.
  • Extensive experience with automation platforms 
  • Knowledge of Siemens, WinCC Flexible, and other Siemens automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with ABB robot programming and integration.
  • Proven expertise in PLC programming, control system design, troubleshooting, and software development.
  • Field Bus design, commissioning, and point-to-point I/O configuration.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, control diagrams, and customer-specific documentation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, and E-Plan for electrical and control drawings.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and automation requirements.
  • Proven expertise with industry safety standards for automated processes.

 

At the Volvo Group, we strive for a clear, transparent, and straightforward compensation approach, motivating you to contribute to the company’s growth. For this position, the base pay is set at $115,000 - $137,000 annually, and where applicable, bonus eligible.  The range for this role, as well as final salary offered, is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, work-related knowledge, certifications, skills, education, and experience. In addition to these factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
