If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Thesis Proposal
This master thesis (30 ECTS) is suitable for one student who is completing their studies in Design and Product development / Mechanical Engineering / Automotive Engineering or equivalent. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Desired start date is Jan-Feb 2026.
Background
Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE), a division of Volvo Group, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction equipment such as wheel loaders, haulers, excavators, road machinery, and compact machines. We in the Powertrain organization within VCE are here to make a difference and want to offer sustainable transport & infrastructure solutions. Gas tight hoses are a crucial part of the exhaust system and choosing the correct hose is vital to ensure the emission system works well and aligns with the latest regulations.
Project Summary
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the performance of a new Gas tight hose across different product platforms (Wheel loader, Haulers and Excavators)
The work will involve creating a Catia model, thermal analysis, structural and vibrational analysis and multi-physics analysis.
The main activities are:
- Simulate and analyze the current gas tight hose and compare it with field data.
- Thermal analysis - Evaluate heat distribution and thermal degradation
- Structural and vibrational analysis to verify if the gas tight hoses satisfy the technical requirements
- Analyze the effect of misalignment of the hoses
- The above activities should be performed for 3 separate gas tight hoses across the three product platforms
A full report of the work will be prepared and presented to staff at Volvo CE. It will be required for the student to perform the thesis at Volvo CE facilities in Eskilstuna.
