What you will do
At Volvo Construction Equipment, you will contribute to shaping how the future of manufacturing supply chains evolves. This Master Thesis offers a unique opportunity to explore Industry 5.0 and its impact on supplier networks, helping define how Volvo CE can support suppliers in becoming more sustainable, resilient, digitalized, and future-ready.
You will:
- Conduct academic research on Industry 5.0 and its application within manufacturing supply chains.
- Benchmark leading industrial organizations and OEMs to understand best practices in supplier transformation and capability development.
- Analyze how companies support suppliers in areas such as sustainability, resilience, digitalization, workforce development, and operational excellence.
- Engage with Volvo CE stakeholders across functions to gather insights and assess current practices.
- Conduct supplier interviews and case studies to understand challenges, opportunities, and maturity levels.
- Develop an Industry 5.0 supplier maturity framework and assessment model.
- Create recommendations that can help shape Volvo CE's future supplier engagement and development strategy.
- Deliver actionable outcomes including benchmarking insights, governance recommendations, implementation roadmaps, KPIs, and success metrics.
This is a highly visible project that combines academic rigor with real business impact and offers the opportunity to influence future supplier development approaches in a global industrial organization.
Your future team
You will be part of Volvo Construction Equipment's Supplier Development and Supply Chain community, working closely with experienced professionals driving supplier performance, sustainability, resilience, and transformation initiatives across Europe. Based on the thesis setup, you will collaborate with a fellow Master student and engage with stakeholders from sourcing, supplier development, manufacturing, sustainability, and strategy functions.
The environment is characterized by knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous learning. You will gain exposure to senior stakeholders while working on a topic that sits at the intersection of technology, sustainability, supply chains, and industrial transformation.

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Master's program within Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Sustainability Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong interest in manufacturing transformation, Industry 5.0, sustainability, digitalization, and supply chain strategy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to structure complex information and translate insights into practical recommendations.
- Self-driven mindset with the ability to plan and execute research activities independently.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Interest in supplier development, procurement, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience conducting interviews, case studies, benchmarking, or business analysis projects.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, digital transformation, Industry 4.0/5.0 concepts, or supply chain resilience.
- Previous industrial experience through internships, student projects, or part-time work.
