What you will do
As a Senior Field Test Engineer at Volvo Group Trucks, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and safety of Volvo Group Trucks in real-world conditions. You will be responsible for conducting extensive field tests, collecting data, analyzing results, and providing valuable feedback to the engineering and development teams for the engineering test vehicles tested in conjunction with Volvo Autonomous Solutions (VAS) and Aurora. This position requires a deep understanding of automotive engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality products. This position is in Dallas – Ft. Worth metro area.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Testing: Conduct field tests of Volvo Group Trucks in various operating environments, including highway and urban conditions. Supporting the base vehicle testing in conjunction with VAS and Aurora team members.
- Data Collection: Utilize advanced data acquisition systems to collect comprehensive data on vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, emissions, and other relevant parameters during field tests.
- Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze field test data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues. Work closely with cross-functional teams to interpret findings and develop solutions.
- Performance Evaluation: Evaluate the performance of test vehicles under different load conditions, weather conditions, and terrain types. Provide insights into areas for improvement and optimization.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that test vehicles meet stringent quality standards by conducting thorough inspections and assessments during field tests.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of field test procedures, results, and observations. Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Feedback and Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, design, and product development teams to communicate test results, provide feedback, and contribute to the continuous improvement of test vehicles.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate any issues or failures encountered during field tests, diagnose root causes, and work with relevant teams to implement corrective actions.
- Customer Interaction: Interact with Volvo Autonomous Solution and Aurora team member and to gather feedback on test vehicle performance in real-world applications. Use customer insights to drive product enhancements and innovation.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure that field tests are conducted in compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards. Prioritize the safety of personnel and equipment at all times.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, powertrain systems, and automotive technology.
- Proficiency in diagnostics & troubleshooting tools and techniques, such as Premium Tech Tool, CANalyzer, ATI Vision, etc.,
- Willingness to travel extensively for field testing activities, sometimes on short notice.
- Previous experience in autonomous vehicle testing preferably in the automotive and/or commercial trucking industry is a plus.
