So - what are we looking for in this specific role?
In your role, you will focus on our Energy Management Systems (EMS) that support the complex needs of our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products in the rapidly evolving energy markets.
You will support in establishing connectivity between the BESS units and its connected services, including local & cloud EMS functionality, and BESS digital twin that is the base for our evolving data-driven tools and decision engines. You’ll build the environment in and around our IoT Edge devices, incl. connected vehicle chargers, sustainable energy generation and other devices enabling smart and connected energy management.
You’ll work with market interoperability between energy systems, encompassing standards like IEC 60870-5, 61850 and DNP-3 and make sure the IoT Edge solutions are designed to communicate accordingly. You will ensure reliable and cyber secure connectivity between edge components and the Volvo Energy EMS solution via MQTT/OPC-UA as defined by the Volvo Energy target architecture.

Qualifications likely required to be successful
• Knowledge in the areas of:
- Energy management systems (EMS)
- Supervision and Control systems (e.g. SCADA)
- Protocols like Modbus, MQTT and OPC-UA
• Solid understanding of cyber security, data management and modern integration technologies
• Experience developing embedded systems like connectivity modules or SCADA systems related to energy management, electric grids or real estate site control.
• Experience from Agile development and DevOps practices.
• Strong technology interest and a curiosity to always learn more.
• Ability to work closely with colleagues in a diverse environment with several different development teams, both inside Volvo and with other players in the Digital Ecosystem.
• University education relevant to the position: electrical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, Data, Informatics or equivalent.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.
