Bachelor thesis- Optimize user experience for graphical interface of Energy Prediction and data insights

Bachelor thesis project 2025

Background
Electrified vehicles are a major focus and maximizing their efficiency is of crucial importance. In our team we are working towards creating digital service enablers for BEV trucks used by Volvo Group stakeholders internally and externally.

This thesis focuses on the practical implementation of a graphical user interface that enables project managers at Volvo to analyze and optimize the energy consumption of battery-electric trucks. The Energy Prediction algorithm used at Volvo has an API that is often used by developers and data scientists but is not as accessible to project managers due to the lack of an intuitive interface. To enable this, a web application, based on an already existing design, will be implemented, and specifically adapted to project managers.

Scope
The work is for 15 ECTS, starting in the first quarter of 2025. The work will be conducted at Volvo Group Trucks Technology in collaboration with Chalmers University.

The work will include:

The focus will be on visualizing data (outputs from the energy prediction algorithm) in a manner that makes it easy for project managers to draw valuable insights and assist their data-driven decision-making process. The implementation will also prioritize efficiency, responsiveness, and accessibility, ensuring that project managers, regardless of their level of domain knowledge, can seamlessly explore simulation results and extract meaningful insights.

Student profile
This thesis project is suitable for 2 Bachelor students in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering or similar engineering domains.
