Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

At Function & Software Defined Vehicles (FSDV), we shape tomorrow’s technology by delivering sustainable, innovative, and data driven solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and performance throughout the vehicle lifecycle. We support the Volvo Group engineering community with advanced tools, methods, and architectures that enable continuous customer value even after start of production.

Our strategy is to accelerate the Software Defined Vehicles journey by using a layered software and electronic architecture with industry standard interfaces, enabling faster development and regional adaptation. By decoupling hardware from software, we ensure that software can evolve independently, unlocking flexibility, scalability, and long term performance improvements. We align our electrical and software architecture with business and operational models to fully leverage the potential of Software Defined Vehicles.

Shape the future of sustainable transport through smart cost engineering.

At Volvo Group, we are driving the transition to sustainable and connected transport solutions. We are now looking for a Cost Engineer within Electrical & Electronics (E&E) to join our Product Finance organization.

In this role, you will combine technical expertise with business acumen to influence product development, sourcing strategies, and commercial decisions. You will work at the forefront of emerging technologies, supporting the development of future truck, bus, and power solutions while ensuring value-driven purchasing decisions.

What You Will Do

As a Cost Engineer, you will be responsible for estimating part costs and tooling investments for both new product development and existing products. You will support development teams from the earliest concept phase through sourcing and implementation, helping to drive cost-efficient design and manufacturing decisions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Estimating costs for components and systems within the Electrical & Electronics area, including wiring harnesses, alternators, starter motors, and other electrical and electronic products.
  • Performing cost target setting, cost breakdowns, and manufacturing process analysis based on technical documentation, CAD data, drawings, and physical components.
  • Supporting engineering teams with cost estimates and analyses to guide product and design decisions.
  • Providing fact-based cost models and negotiation support to purchasing teams.
  • Contributing expertise to strategic business cases, cost workshops, benchmarking activities, and teardowns.
  • Supporting change management activities by assessing the impact of engineering changes on product and tooling costs.
  • Collaborating closely with purchasing, engineering, project management, module management, and colleagues across Product Finance.
  • Visiting supplier manufacturing sites to discuss production methods, cost drivers, investments, and manufacturing efficiency.

The role offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into future technologies and contribute to innovative solutions within a rapidly evolving technical landscape.

  • Experience within the automotive industry, manufacturing, or supply chain environments.
  • A structured and analytical approach to problem solving.

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Experience in any of the following areas is considered an advantage:
