We are now seeking a visionary Head of Virtual Driver (VD) to lead a critical part of our organization, where strategic delivery meets people-centric leadership.

 

Your Mission

As Head of Virtual Driver (VD), you will be responsible for owning the short- to mid-term (1–3 years) strategy execution and operational direction for your area. You’ll lead through others, ensuring alignment with V.A.S’s mission and long-term goals, and act as a key connector between executive leadership and the broader organization.

 

You’ll play a key role in shaping the strategic direction and operational execution of your department. You’ll lead with purpose by defining and driving a clear strategy that aligns with our business goals and V.A.S values. Your leadership will ensure impactful results across programs and platforms, while fostering a culture of accountability and care—reflecting our commitment to Safety Culture.

Collaboration will be key to your success. You’ll act as a vital interface between your function and other parts of V.A.S and the Volvo Group, promoting alignment, transparency, and shared success. Technical responsibilities

  • Lead the technical product development of the Volvo Autonomous Solutions VD, ensuring robust, reliable, and high-quality software delivery​
  • Define, own, and drive the technical roadmap for VD software and system development, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation​
  • Collaborate and align closely with stakeholders across technology, product, solution, and customer delivery teams to ensure seamless integration and performance​
  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, championing best practices in software quality assurance, testing, and validation​
  • Own & drive the delivery of the VD for customer projects as Engineering Project Manager (EPM), ensuring all deliverables meet stringent quality and safety standard​
  • Act as the technical thought-leader for VD software and system development, representing the organization in internal and external technical forums​
  • Foster a culture of excellence in software engineering, promoting code quality, maintainability, and reliability across teams

 

Required skills

  • Proven experience in building and delivering safety-relevant software stacks in the autonomous vehicle space, with people management responsibility for large engineering organizations​
  • Deep technical expertise in developing full AD software stacks using a simulation-first approach for autonomous applications, ideally in confined or off-road domains​
  • Demonstrated mastery in leveraging advanced virtual simulation environments for development, testing, validation, and continuous improvement​
  • Experience in implementing and scaling virtual simulation frameworks to accelerate development cycles and ensure software robustness​
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and guiding software, system, and safety engineering teams to build high-quality, safety-critical software​
  • Strong background in software quality assurance, including automated testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices​
  • In-depth understanding and application of relevant functional and operational safety standards
  • Proven track record of production program delivery responsibility, with a focus on software quality and reliability​
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive alignment and consensus across diverse teams
