What you will do

As Lead Legal and Compliance Counsel – Human Rights at Volvo Group Trucks Purchasing (GTP), you will play a pivotal role in steering our global human rights compliance initiatives. Your expertise will be critical in driving the compliance and due diligence strategy for our supply network, ensuring the protection of human rights and adherence to regulatory requirements. This role combines leadership, strategic development, and hands-on project management to provide expert guidance and support across all purchasing commodities.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Lead Implementation: Drive the global Human Rights Compliance program including but not limited to Due Diligence program for the Volvo Group purchasing activities and its supply network, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Research and Apply Frameworks: Interpret and apply human rights requirements and due diligence frameworks and guidelines related to supply chain activities, ensuring compliance with legal requirements in collaboration with the L&C team.
  • Strategy and Direction: Provide direction on human rights compliance and due diligence based on current and future regulatory landscapes globally.
  • Develop Tools and Guidelines: Own and secure the development and implementation of relevant human rights due diligence tools, guidelines, processes, and targets.
  • Collaborate and Contribute: Work closely with the Legal and Compliance team as well as with Responsible Purchasing team and other relevant teams to implement the joint Responsible Purchasing Roadmap and human rights compliance initiatives.
  • Training and Coaching: Provide training and coaching to build knowledge and capabilities within the organization on human rights and compliance issues.
  • Represent Volvo Group: Participate in external industry groups and compliance networks, representing Volvo Group Purchasing
     

Who are you?

You are passionate about sustainability and compliance, with a track record of implementing human rights strategies in a multinational corporate environment. With strong leadership skills and creative problem-solving abilities, you are adept at managing complex projects and driving change. Your excellent communication skills in English and the ability to build sustainable relationships make you a valuable team player.


Required Experience and Education:

 

Educational Background:

  • Master of science or equivalent in a relevant field. An advanced legal degree (JD equivalent) is highly valued.

 

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years as a lawyer specialized in sustainability / human rights, with deep understanding in compliance and due diligence focusing on human rights, preferably within a supply network context. Experience of minimum ten years in project management, commercial/contracts, and deep understanding of compliance program management is preferred.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Extensive experience in legal, compliance, ESG, and trade compliance.
  • Excellent understanding of ESG / human rights challenges in the automotive sector.
  • Proficient in legal English, with fluency in additional languages being an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and project management within fast-paced environments.

  • Strategic Business Partner: Provide expert legal and compliance counsel to shape the legal landscape in alignment with business imperatives.
  • Senior lead implementer: Drive in a consistent and systematic manner to make impact on human rights matters for real
  • Trend Anticipator: Stay ahead of regulatory changes, offering proactive guidance to dynamic business teams.
  • Master of Documents: Innovate, craft, negotiate, and approve an array of legal documents, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Mentor and Team Player: Actively contribute to the GTP Legal and Compliance team, coaching and mentoring to develop the skills of legal professionals.
