Location:

Göteborg, SE, 417 15

Position Type:  Student

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

About the project

Parametric Evaluation of Pedestrian Injury Mechanisms in Truck Frontal Impacts Using Human Body Models.

Background
The increasing prevalence of heavy goods vehicles on roads, driven by the rising demand for transport, highlights the importance of passive safety measures to protect interior occupants and vulnerable road users in the event of an accident. Passive safety systems, such as structural reinforcements, energy-absorbing materials, and crashworthiness features, are designed to minimize injury severity and enhance protection for vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users during collisions or rollovers.

This thesis aims to analyze VRU in frontal impacts, employing advanced simulation tools such as LS-DYNA. Specifically, the project will assess the injury mechanisms and kinematic response of a pedestrian human body model during a frontal impact scenario utilizing a generic truck front. A series of parametric simulations will be performed to systematically investigate the effects of varying key parameters on injury outcomes and pedestrian protection.

You will be a part of the Accident Research Team at Volvo Group Trucks Technology and the thesis is planned to be conducted during the spring of 2026. Two students will be considered for this application.

Aim

Assess the injury mechanisms and kinematic response of a pedestrian HBM during a frontal impact scenario utilizing a generic truck front.

Candidate Profile

  • Educational background within the field of Physics, Mechanical, Applied Mechanics, Materials Eng, or similar fields.
  • Skilled in LS-DYNA & LS-PrePost
  • Strong programming skills (Python or similar)
