Master Thesis: Effects of environmental tools in concept development
Göteborg, SE, 417 15
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Explore this topic by applying Life Cycle Management, Life Cycle Assessment and principles for Product Development to the Volvo Group Trucks Technology.
About the project
The Volvo Group Trucks Technology has introduced a set of tools for use by design engineers to take larger environmental consideration in concept development, i.e. in early phases of product development. These tools are a mix of rather small checklists and application of miniature LCA steps, and their use is supposed to support design engineers taking better environmental decisions up front.
The purpose of this project is to support increasing environmental considerations in the concept development process at the company, by building knowledge and understanding on how today’s tools are perceived and used, thus building a foundation to initiate change management actions.
The project objectives are to quantify and qualify the perception of sustainability and important environmental targets amongst design engineers in early phases of product development. Also to investigate in which way environmental tools are used, and when they are used, for which purpose they are used in the engineering design process. The project should also provide recommendations for change management actions.
Methods and tools that will be used during the project include surveys and in-depth interviews. Gap analysis will also be performed between how environmental tools are used and perceived, and their intents.
