Master Thesis: Impact of B2G (Boat to Grid) on marine drivelines

What you will do

Background:

 

The first designs of electric drivelines for marine have mainly taken boat usage as input. Leisure boat usage is 40-80 hours per year, and introduction of B2G will increase the possible usage to +5000 hours which adds new requirements.

With B2G usage will, for a leisure boat, go from a small number of charging sessions to charging sessions lasting for months with charging and discharging happening on a daily basis.

 

Thesis work objective:

 

  • What are the new requirements on the driveline e.g. power electronics, state machine, regulatory where improvements can be made to minimize environmental footprints in our system etc.
  • LCA impact of B2G on power electronics, warranty perspective
  • Energy efficiency of drivelines/EMOB system, simulate fast-charging scenario to;
    • analyze the BIDI power flow
    • evaluate charging efficiency under operating conditions in real-time

 

 

 

 

Who are you?

  • Familiarity with marine systems and environment, hardware integration and testing is a plus
  • Proficient in mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Skilled in mechatronics and/or related fields of engineering
