If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

About the thesis

Development of rigs for component testing within powertrain transmissions. There is a need to test a type of gearbox component against impact fatigue. Testing individual gearbox components for fatigue is important as they are subjected to many load cycles and need to be able to withstand this without wearing out prematurely. By performing fatigue tests, this can be tested before the finished gearbox is manufactured, which is both time and cost effective.  The current test rig is designed to test a certain part with a certain impact energy, where the rig sometimes loses count of how many test cycles have been completed and it is not rigid enough to accurately hit the same area after many cycles.

Scope of the project:

Design a generic component fatigue rig
· Collect requirement and set delimitations
· Evaluate different concepts in early stage
· Strength calculations and material selection
· Create CAD models, drawings and related documentation
· Presentation and report

This work is suitable for one or two students.

Your profile:

· One or two Master’s student(s) in mechanical design.
· Good knowledge in strength calculations and CAD design
· Hands-on skills to create prototypes for evaluation
