Master Thesis: Marinas energy and revenue optimization

Location:

Göteborg, SE, 417 15

Position Type:  Student

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Background

Electrification of leisure boats will put new requirements and also create new opportunities for marinas and dealers with winter storage. Some marinas will need to manage a weak grid connection, larger marinas will look into solar and bess systems to balance power needs and costs.

Thesis objective

Create a model/simulation for marinas with different components such as electric boats connected via Vehicle2Grid, cars connected via chargers (V2G optional), solar, energy storage etc and adding constraints like grid connection.
With this model optimize energy usage for a defined set of marinas , eg small- strong-grid, small-weak-grid, large-weak-grid, and large- strong-grid. Output should be eg # electric boats that can be handled w/o changes to grid (investments on top of chargers.)
Add the dimension of support/ancillary services to the model to investigate financial opportunities.
The model will be applied to Penta’s test center Krossholmen and hopefully 1-2 real marinas and their unique setup.

What’s in it for you?

Explore and put to practice your skills from Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems or Engineering Physics and develop new within Vehicle2Grid technologies.

Qualifications and Personal Profile

  • Master students Electrical Engineering / Energy Systems or Engineering Physics
  • Courses in Energy system modelling (MEN115 or similar)
