Location:

Göteborg, SE, 417 15

Position Type:  Graduate

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

What you will do?

At Volvo Penta  you will be part of a fantastic team that develops and test our next generation of concepts and products. This master thesis- microgrid optomization and integration of Vehicle to Grid is based at our Marine test center where you will be working as part of the Marine driveline and facility engineering team. This fantastic team takes care of drivleline, acoustic, vibration and corrosion Testing alongside facility engineering in a seamless integration that makes this test center at Krossholmen very unique - we promise you a sea view in your daily work.

So, some background first:

By the end of 2025 Volvo Penta will have two V2G (Vehicle to Grid) systems, one BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) and a complete microgrid monitoring system up and running at our test facility Krossholmen. On site there is local power generation through on site generator, solar and wind.

Now take a look at the fantastic objectives for this Master Thesis project:

  • Define optimization strategies for Krossholmen site. We want Krossholmen to be a living example of a future green marina.
  • Run simulations as needed taking grid costs, energy cost and local generation into account. When do we store locally produced energy, when do we sell, when do we offer our assets to the external grid?
  • Together with Varberg energi and the microgrid system implement chosen strategy to optimize cost and energy usage.
  • The above is first done for the existing Krossholmen system, the next step is to simulate and optimize the future site where all electric boats could be Vehicle to Grid  (V2G) enabled.
  • One objective is to understand the business case for V2G and to help define the longterm strategy for Krossholmen
