Master Thesis: Simulation machine learning EATS
Göteborg, SE, 417 15
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
What will you do?
Background:
Volvo Penta has made a commitment to reduce our CO2 emissions and to take responsibility as a world-leading supplier of engines. Our engines are today equipped with exhaust aftertreatment systems (EATS) to clean the exhaust gases, in a mission to create engines with less environmental impact.
To help develop new systems and test existing ones, Volvo Penta uses virtual testing. This saves on resources like fuel and equipment, as well as increases the testing possibilities. Today the virtual testing is limited to the engine, but there is a big request for this to also include the aftertreatment system.
Thesis work objective:
The objective of this thesis is to investigate the possibility to use machine learning/AI to create a model by training it on existing engine data. Next step will be to use the model to create new, artificial test data and use that to verify the function of the model. The virtual testing at Volvo Penta is today limited to only include the engine, and there is therefore a great interest to include the aftertreatment system.
1.Collect and sort useful engine + EATS test data
2.Create the machine learning model
3.Generate virtual test data
4.Verify the model
The details and scope of the master thesis will be developed together with the thesis worker/s. Tutors will be available at Volvo Penta to support.
