Location:

Göteborg, SE, 417 15

Position Type:  Student

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Background

The growing concern over pollution in small marinas has prompted the exploration of sustainable alternatives to traditional boating practices. One promising solution is the conversion to electric boats, which potentially offers a significant reduction in water and air pollution. Understanding how this shift would impact the local marine environment, particularly in the shallow waters of Swedish marinas, is crucial. These areas are vital for fish reproduction and maintaining ecological balance, and are currently suffering from pollution caused partly by conventional fuel-powered boats.

Scope of Work

Aim: The objective of this thesis is to investigate how the conversion to electric boats would affect the local marine environment in small Swedish marinas. This study will analyze the environmental benefits and potential challenges associated with the transition to electric boating operations.

First Step: Conduct a comprehensive literature review on the environmental impact of electric boats compared to traditional fuel-powered boats. This will include examining case studies and existing research on pollution reduction and ecological benefits.

Second Step: Develop a model to simulate the impact of electric boats on the local marine environment. This model should consider factors such as water quality, vegetation growth, and the health of marine species.

Third Step: Propose a detailed implementation plan for a pilot project at selected marina sites. This plan should include technical specifications for electric boat infrastructure, estimated costs, and expected environmental outcomes.
