Volvo Buses is recruiting a General Counsel with global responsibility to support and develop the objectives for the legal function. The legal function consists of a dedicated Volvo Buses legal team, which is also an integrated part of the broader Volvo Group Legal & Compliance community, supporting the operations of Volvo Buses globally. You and your team will work in close cooperation with the commercial organizations representing the Volvo Bus and Prevost brands in the relevant countries. You will report to the President of Volvo Buses and be a member of Volvo Buses leadership team as well as the Volvo Group network of General Counsels (Legal and Compliance Council or LCC).


Main activities and responsibilities:
 
You will be responsible for ensuring that the legal function has formulated and agreed objectives, aiming to support Volvo Buses’ strategy and business plans. The role is also about ensuring that the legal function is properly resourced and has the capacity, commitment, and competence to provide high-quality legal advice, negotiation support, relevant training and supporting documents and guidelines in a timely manner. Furthermore, you will lead and challenge the legal function and inspire motivation, knowledge and cross functional teamwork and cooperation within Volvo Buses and the Volvo Group.

 

As a member of the Volvo Bus leadership team, you will be expected to participate in strategy formulation, business decisions and contribute to the overall development and success of Volvo Buses, while taking the lead implementing Volvo Group policies, strategies and procedures within the legal area and promoting legal compliance. You will also support the implementation of the Volvo Group compliance program, covering primarily competition laws, anti-corruption laws, export control laws, data privacy laws and champion a culture in line with Volvo Group values and principles (Volvo Code of Conduct, etc.).

 

In this role you will participate in Boards, Councils (especially, be an active member of the LCC) and Committees as deemed appropriate. The position also includes representing the legal function with external stakeholders as required and providing reporting to Group Legal & Compliance.

Key competencies

•    Master of Laws and a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.
•    Excellent analytical skills and ability to apply relevant legal, commercial and financial aspects.
•    Strong personal credibility and integrity.
•    Extensive experience in business/transaction management and of providing advice to senior and top-level management or the board of directors. 
•    Strong business acumen. Extensive commercial contracting experience, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements. 
•    Experience of leading, mentoring and coaching colleagues as well as initiating and driving improvement including change activities.
•    A can-do mindset with high drive and energy. Strong creative problem-solving abilities and communication skills.
•    Proficiency in both written and oral English is required. 
•    Experience of tender business and project management is a merit.

 

Start date and timeline:

The position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Occasional travel is expected. The final date of sending your application is September 25th 2026.
