Senior Legal Counsel - Indirect Purchasing
Göteborg, SE, 417 15
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to take full ownership of legal matters related to indirect purchasing. This is a strategic and hands-on role for someone who wants to shape how procurement is supported legally across the organization. You will play a key part in ensuring that our contracting framework is robust, scalable, and fit for purpose over time.
The role sits in the Legal Global Functions and Specialists department, working in close collaboration with the leadership team from procurement, and business operations. It requires someone who not only understands contracts, but also how purchasing functions in practice—and how to build structures that work long-term.
In this role, you will report to the Head of Legal Global Functions & Specialists within the Legal and Volvo Group IP, where you have your homebase with collaborative legal colleagues. In addition, you will work closely with purchasing stakeholders across the organization globally.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will take the lead on all legal aspects of indirect procurement, with a particular focus on IT-related agreements. A core part of your responsibility will be to ensure that contract templates are relevant, up to date, and consistently applied across the organization. This includes developing, maintaining, and improving templates and frameworks that support efficient and compliant purchasing processes.
You will act as a trusted advisor to procurement and business stakeholders, leading negotiations of complex agreements, especially within IT and digital services. Beyond individual contracts, the role involves taking a broader, strategic view to ensure that legal support for indirect purchasing is structured, accessible, and aligned with business needs.
Building strong relationships will be essential. You will establish and grow a network across procurement, IT, and other key functions, ensuring alignment and creating a clear point of contact for legal matters within indirect purchasing.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of an important and evolving area, where your work will have a direct impact on how the organization operates. You will be part of a collaborative environment, working closely with business stakeholders while shaping best practices within indirect procurement.
If you are looking for a role where you can combine legal expertise with business impact—and build something meaningful over time—we would like to hear from you.
Qualifications and Experience
This role requires a qualified lawyer with solid experience working closely with procurement or within a purchasing environment. A genuine interest in procurement and how organizations manage indirect spending is essential.
Strong experience in negotiating and drafting contracts is required, particularly within IT and technology-related agreements. Familiarity with structuring and managing contract templates and frameworks is highly valued, as is the ability to take ownership of processes and drive improvements over time.
A proactive and structured approach is important, combined with the confidence to take the lead and build something that will last. The ability to collaborate effectively across functions and build strong internal networks will be key to success.
Critical Competencies
- 5+ years’ legal experience preferrable as a Corporate Counsel.
- Relevant bar admission.
- Experience negotiating and drafting a wide range of purchasing agreements including but not limited to software agreements (incl. SaaS agreements), consultancy services agreements and investment agreements.
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
