Role description

We are looking for a Legal Counsel who combines expertise in digital regulation with a passion for innovation. Someone who not only advises the business on legal risks and opportunities, but also helps transform how legal services are delivered across the Volvo Group. You will work in close co-operation with the technical and business organizations. You will report to the Head of Legal & Compliance Digital Technology & Operations.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a central role in shaping Volvo Group's approach to digital transformation and emerging digital regulations. As a trusted advisor to senior business and technology leaders, you will help the organization navigate a rapidly evolving legal landscape covering data, cybersecurity, AI, intellectual property and digital services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a subject matter expert on strategic digital, technology and data-related legislation.
  • Advising on legal and compliance risks and opportunities connected to digital products, connected services, AI solutions and data-driven business models.
  • Providing legal guidance on data privacy, cybersecurity, open-source software, IP and other technology-related matters.
  • Designing and implementing practical legal frameworks, playbooks, templates and governance models.
  • Driving innovation within the legal function by leveraging legal technology, automation, AI and modern ways of working.
  • Educating and influencing stakeholders across the organization through training, thought leadership and strategic advice.
  • Drafting, negotiating and leading complex technology, software, cloud, data and commercial agreements.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across Legal & Compliance and contributing to the continued development of a strong, collaborative and high-performing legal team.

Competence Profile & Qualification

We believe you have a law degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience from a leading law firm, a multinational company or a combination of both.

You have substantial experience advising businesses operating at the intersection of technology, data and commercial innovation. You combine strong legal judgment with a genuine interest in understanding technology, business models and operational realities.

You are curious about technology and understand how AI, data-driven business models, automation and digital platforms are changing industries. You actively explore how technology can improve legal processes, enhance decision-making and create scalable ways of supporting the business.

To succeed in this role, you are:

  • A strategic thinker who can translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior executives, engineers, architects and product teams alike.
  • Curious about emerging technologies and how they create both opportunities and risks.
  • An influential communicator who builds credibility through expertise, pragmatism and collaboration.
  • Passionate about improving and modernizing the delivery of legal services through technology, automation and process excellence.
  • Motivated by shaping the future rather than maintaining the status quo.
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working across functions, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.

Why Join Us?
