Senior Software Engineer

Location:

Göteborg, SE, 417 55

Position Type:  Professional

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

What you will do

At Volvo Group Digital Technology & Operations (DTO)  you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry and society at large. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Your future team

You will join the Platform team, which operates at the intersection of multiple business domains and engineering teams. The platform integrates with a growing ecosystem of enterprise domains and legacy sales systems across multiple clusters and teams.

This is not a traditional feature-delivery team. Instead, the team focuses on enabling scalable collaboration by defining shared contracts, establishing engineering guardrails, and shaping best practices across the broader solution. Working closely with solution architects and neighboring domain teams, you'll contribute to system design, integration strategy, and the evolution of platform capabilities such as spec-driven workflows, governance-as-code, self-diagnosing services, and AI-assisted engineering—helping increase the productivity and quality of engineering across the organization.

Who are you?

You are passionate about platform engineering and engineering best practices, with a strong focus on building secure, scalable, and reliable solutions. You have a strong programming background and a system-thinking mindset. You enjoy solving complex technical challenges, designing scalable solutions, and understanding how different systems interact to create seamless user experiences. You thrive in collaborative environments, take ownership of technical decisions, and are passionate about building platforms that enable other teams to succeed

Do you dream big? We do too, and we are excited to grow together. In this role, you will bring:

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in backend engineering using modern .NET/C#, including ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework Core.
  • Strong expertise in designing and building APIs and integrations, with hands-on experience in REST, GraphQL, messaging patterns, idempotency, and resilient system design.
  • Experience in TypeScript/React and micro-frontend architecture (module federation, Nx monorepos, design systems, MFE contracts) — enough to own the contract surface toward frontend teams and
contribute when the problem lands there.
  • Solid understanding of identity and security, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), Microsoft Entra ID, authentication flows, and secure system design.
  • Experience delivering cloud-native applications using containers, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools such as OpenTelemetry or similar.
  • Proven ability to design scalable distributed systems, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and clearly document technical decisions for long-term maintainability.
  • Demonstrated experience improving engineering productivity through developer tooling, platform capabilities, shared frameworks, engineering standards, or best practices adopted across multiple teams.

Strong Plus:

  • Experience with AI-assisted or agentic engineering workflows, including agent orchestration, policy-driven automation, or spec-driven development.
  • Experience with HotChocolate GraphQL, Azure DevOps at enterprise scale, Backstage, or applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) in large, multi-team environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across domain teams, architects, and stakeholders in a complex enterprise environment.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a pragmatic engineering mindset. You are someone who:

  • Takes an evidence-based approach by validating assumptions against running systems and source code rather than relying solely on documentation.
  • Values simplicity, building solutions that are as simple as possible while remaining scalable, maintainable, and ready to evolve when needed.
  • Communicates through documentation, capturing architectural decisions, design rationale, and technical knowledge so it can be shared and built upon by others.
  • Thrives in ambiguity, turning incomplete information, evolving requirements, and cross-team dependencies into well-defined solutions and clear technical direction.
  • Builds resilient systems, preferring transparent, observable failures over silent errors and designing software that is reliable, diagnosable, and easy to operate.
  • Enjoys collaborating across teams, influencing engineering practices, and helping raise the technical quality and productivity of those around you.

What’s in it for you?

We offer a solid package of compensation and benefits, plus you will enjoy:

•    Emphasis on work-life balance for personal and professional development
•    A collaborative, international community with 1000+ colleagues across seven countries
•    Strong opportunities to grow through global, cross-functional work and end-to-end product ownership
•    A culture that values openness, diversity in expertise and perspective, and co-creation
