Thermal Management is a department within Vehicle Technology responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining an optimized cab climate and vehicle cooling & heating systems for all types of propulsion installations to all truck brands within the Volvo Group. We are responsible for leading the work with strategies and advanced engineering globally. We are located at Gothenburg & Bangalore, and we have close cooperation with the sites in Greensboro and Lyon.

 

We are now looking for an experienced, self-driven System Performance Engineer to strengthen our team, Thermal Management Application SW. Our team is responsible for the design and development of the application SW, controlling the complete thermal management system, and the calibration and tuning of it. Meaning that we are responsible for Cab Climate and the Coolant loop functionality covering all sites and truck brands (among more) within the Volvo Group.

 

Join the Thermal Management Sub Stream, within the Vehicle Motion and Thermal Management department. Embark on the journey to develop the future Volvo Group Thermal Management systems and functions.

 

What's in it for you?

As a Cab Climate System Performance Engineer, you are the integrator and the driver who develops and keeps together the Climate scope in a product update.

Together with your team you secure that the Cab Climate feature and end user functions Cab Climate comfort, seat comfort, defrosting of windows and to achieve good cab air quality, will be delivered to the product. You will need to collaborate a lot with the controller development teams, testing facilities, testing teams, workshops, and more. 

 

In your daily work, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of customer needs related to Cab Climate Comfort, with occasional emphasis on thermal supply (Cooling Performance).
  • Translate customer needs into measurable requirements, document them, and plan and execute the verification and validation of the climate system.
  • Lead and participate in testing and tuning activities for climate control regulators, primarily conducted in trucks on roads, wind tunnels, or climate chambers, and occasionally in rigs.
  • Analyze test results, implement necessary actions, and compile detailed engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software development teams, providing input and managing the complex balancing of engineering and customer requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive calibration of TM systems to specified targets and recommend balancing strategies within the TM system.
  • Act as a stakeholder in control and software strategies, hardware specifications, and deliver datasets to meet project targets and design requirements.
  • Contribute to the definition and documentation of test cases, and plan, organize, and ensure the execution of verification and validation activities.
  • Produce an Engineering Report (ER) upon completion of your scope of work and issue PIL reports.
  • Contribute to knowledge capitalization by updating calibration guidelines within your scope.
  • Act as a key member of an agile team, contributing to both short-term deliverables and long-term strategic goals.

Relevant Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, or Mechatronic
  • Knowledge of Automotive Climate system and Thermal supply
  • Experience of functional verification and system tuning/calibration
  • Knowledge in planning, performing, and analyzing results from rig or vehicle testing

 

Meritorious to have:

  • C or CE Truck Driving License
