Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Project Description

The Volvo Trucks Plant in Tuve, Gothenburg, produces heavy trucks for the global market. An important sector is the customer adaption process where specific adaptations and body building of trucks are made. The high variation in specification between the trucks produced creates many challenges for the process design and waste streams in the assembly. Sustainability has always been a high priority for Volvo group. With a circular approach both customer value, financial gain and efficiency can be evaluated and improved.

Task:

Document and evaluate today’s flow of resources and waste streams in the customer adaptation process. Make a value stream mapping including purchasing of goods, transport and storage, process and production use and waste flows for different products and parts.  Develop and suggest improvements for a more circular and effective setup and evaluate alternatives for different resources and waste flows. Verify and discuss the proposed solutions in collaboration with stakeholders within the process. Document the suggested and improved process including improvements for environment and finances.

You are expected to:

Collaborate with responsible engineers, operators, managers and the environmental organization within the plant. Use a structured methodology and value stream mapping techniques to document solutions and findings.

We require the work to be performed by a team of two students. Please state the name of your partner in your application.

Applicants without partner will not be considered.

Location will be the assembly plant in Tuve, Gothenburg. The students are expected to spend most of the time on-site, collaborating with the plant staff. Therefore, we require at least one student to speak Swedish.
