Thesis: Reliability assessment of critical components/systems under variable environmental condition
Göteborg, SE, 417 56
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Background
Research title: "Reliability assessment of critical components/systems under variable environmental conditions"
Vehicles generally are designed based on standard environmental conditions such as temperatures, humidity, altitude, and vibrations. However, in service these variables can change and impact on performance, and reliability of our vehicles. In such conditions, there is a need to understand how these variables can affect reliability and to develop predictive models that can estimate failure risks. These initiatives can provide valuable insights into Verification and Validation (V&V) tests, support the warranty calculations, and optimize maintenance activities.
This thesis will apply a data-driven statistical reliability modeling approach to analyze how environmental variations influence performance and lifespan of components. Therefore, it provides insights for improving design and maintenance practices in real-world conditions.
This research will employ a combination of field data collection, statistical analysis, and reliability modeling techniques. Data from various operational regions will be used to identify patterns in failures under different environmental conditions. The models will then be used to predict the components’ lifetime.
Objectives and learning outcome
- Identify and prioritize key environmental factors (temperature, humidity, altitude, vibrations, etc.) that affect components reliability.
- Develop statistical reliability models (such as Weibull analysis, Cox proportional hazard and Bayesian models) and machine learning (ML) application to include the impact of environmental variables on components reliability and lifetime.
- Recommend and make the modifications in current RT codes based on the type of vehicles such as diesel, electrical and articulated.
Duration:
- The duration of the Thesis is 20 weeks (Approximately).
- The thesis starts in January 2026 or earlier if possible.
- On-site presence is preferred and appreciated, as it is easier to collaborate with our teams, as well as getting access to various resources.
- This thesis is suitable for 2 students.
