Thesis work VT26: Cab interior product development
Göteborg, SE, 417 15
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Background
As the world moves forward does the truck and product development. We are very much focused on suitability, cost optimization and at the same time offering a premium high end product and feeling for the customer. To be able to realize a competitive premium product we work in early concept faces that we call AE (Advanced Engineering). By having a road map connected for all our areas we can see what we must focus to modify and develop further to stay ahead of the competition. By having this early concept faces we can reduce the lead time from idea to final product. By doing this AEs we get time to evaluate different concepts and solutions at a greater extent. This is where you come into the picture.
Why this thesis
This thesis is particularly interesting because it offers a unique combination of hands-on experience in product development and real-world exposure to the engineering environment at Volvo Trucks. The opportunity to sit on-site at Lundby in Gothenburg and collaborate directly with the engineering team provides invaluable insights into the practical aspects of vehicle design and innovation. The process of idea generation, brainstorming, and creating mood boards fosters creativity and allows for the development of innovative concepts from initial ideas to tangible prototypes. Additionally, the thesis includes evaluating concepts using tools like the Pugh matrix, conducting cost analyses across development, logistics, parts, and manufacturing, and utilizing advanced 3D modeling in Catia. Support from experienced engineers ensures guidance and mentorship throughout the project, making this an engaging and comprehensive experience that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical application in the automotive industry.

Its all from grab handles that is used for climbing into and out from the truck, storage. To the bed where they can rest and sleep. We are working in close cooperation with our design team an all visible surfaces and material specialists to find the best possible materials. It’s everything from metal to textiles. Together with our electronics department we find solutions to install HW like ECUs and displays to the harness. In our daily work we have a cross-functional team with responsible engineers from all this departments and many more like ergonomic, visibility and safety specialists. All this to be able to create the best home, away from home.
