Co-op: Digital Operations (Spring 2026)

What you will do

As a Data Engineer Co-op, you’ll play a key role helping to unlock the power of data across the Volvo Group. You’ll work within our Complete Vehicle Digital Operations function, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure quality, reliable data and support digital offerings. 

 

Responsibilities: 
•    Extract, combine, transform, load, manipulate, and cleanse data from various sources to ensure high-quality datasets for analysis.  
•    Work closely with data modelers and business analysts to understand the data model and source-to-staging data mapping.  
•    Design and develop Python code for extracting data from various input data sources.  
•    Monitor database systems to ensure jobs run successfully, address any failures promptly, and maintain optimal performance and availability. 
•    Develop and deploy algorithms in performance-efficient code across analytical and data platforms. 
•    Build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines using data processing frameworks in cloud platforms or on-premises environments.  
•    Leverage best practices in continuous integration and delivery to enhance data workflows.  
•    Recommend and implement automation in existing and future integration flows to improve efficiency.  
•    Drive advancements in data acquisition, testing, and tooling to enhance data quality.  
•    Work in cross-functional agile teams to continuously experiment, iterate, and deliver on new product objectives.  
•    Play a key role in requirement analysis and project estimates to ensure alignment with business goals.  
•    Monitor performance and optimize SQL queries for maximum efficiency. .  
•    Work with various cloud data tools such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Databricks to ingest and prepare data for analysis as per business requirements.  

Who are you?

You’re proactive and data-driven,  with a passion for solving complex problems and collaborating across teams and is a student in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering). You have a good knowledge in data engineering or a related field, with a strong focus on ETL processes and cloud data tools. 

 

Competencies:

  • Skill in programming languages such as Python and SQL
  • Knowledge of Azure Databricks, PySpark, SQL, Airflow, PowerBI, Agile and Scrum
  • Knowledge of SQL and experience with relational databases.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies and data processing frameworks.
  • Understanding working in agile environments (e.g., DevOps).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with proficiency in English for international projects.

 

Required:

  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in (Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering) at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Co-ops are not enrolled in academic courses during their co-op rotation and may work up to 40 hours per week.

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $17.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
